Pungoteague is a great school with a lot of heart. Students come first and the caring is obvious when you walk through the doors and students are greeted by name and with a smile by everyone! As th parent of a special needs child, I have been delighted with the education that my child is receiving at PES.

This is our 4th year at Pungoteague Elementary. I'm impressed everyday with the investment that the staff make in the education of our kids. They are the most dedicated, supportive group of people and are always willing to talk with parents. Every school has it's issues but it matters to us that a school is willing to admit to those issues and work to improve them. This school feels like a community and my children are happy at Pungoteague. If you're looking for a school, take the time to visit the schools and ask questions. Look at the data, talk to other parents, but you must form your own opinion and the only way to do that is to visit the schools and talk to the staff.

My children (twins) were placed into this school due to we moved and this is the district we were forced to put our children here. I am very upset as to how my children have been treated by staff, bullying and admin. staff. My girl was jumped by 3 boys on the bus and nothing was done about it. And my son has been bullied over and over. I have had to replace 3 pair of eye glasses and now have to drive my children to school each day due to can not feel comfortable letting my children riding the buses. As of today I had to pull my children out of this school due to the bullying....and nothing was said and no one really cares. I am forced now to get an attorney to protect my children againist this school.

Our school has mad AYP and is fully accredited for the past 5 years! We have a great positive incentive program going on to help with discipline! Our staff is the absolute best! We team, get along and work everyday for success for our students!!! It is the greatest school I've worked in throughout my career!

Pungoteague is like a family. The teachers are very supportive of each other and the office staff is very caring and attentive to the students there.

There is so much negativity in this school. On any given day you can visit and hear screaming, hollaring and constant nit picking for the simplest things. I volunteered for much of my child's first year there and witnessed plenty of negativity. Many (not all) of the staff are rude even to parents in front of the children. There definitely seems to be some sort of power trip going on. I am glad the school has high SOL scores, but the atmosphere could really use a facelift, especially since it is dealing with such young children whom are so impressionable. My child hates going to this school, and I totally understand after spending a bit of time in there. It is like a dark negative dungeon. Also, Children should be treated equally, not discriminated against because their parents have to work full time and can't be up there every day.

I totally agree. The children that are being disruptive should be removed from the class room. That is the same problem that I have had with some of the children in my daughters class. If they don't want to behave and do what they should they should not make those who want to learn suffer.

TOO STRICT? We need to raise the bar and expect much more out of our children! if parents would discipline at home there would be very little need for the teachers to discipline. I am a parent who spends alot of time in the school and until parents back the teachers up the teachers are going to spend all of their day disciplining the disruptive students. I personally want a disruptive child removed from class so my child can learn. why should the disruptive child have more rights than a child who is behaving and folllowing the rules?

I feel as though this elementary school's philosophy is far too strict on the children. They have no qualms about placing student's in in-school suspension or out-of-school suspension. They should do everything in their power to reach every child, no matter the situation. Our youth's need role models and unfortunately Pungoteague has an abundance of cruel teachers who spend more time disciplining than instructing.
