Can you say school run by spoiled rich kids? -Bullying is out of control. Bully never suffers any major punishment, student who was being bullied by two older class men receives 4 days of ISD and the bully receives only 2 and the student was still being harass. -ISD is a joke. Teacher allows children in detention to text,go on IPods, mess around in halls. -There is an administrator (not giving any names but she the thick one) never shows respect for her students, awful offensive sarcasm, and just upright rude -Over crowdedness is a problem -Dress code is a huge problem. The school goes on about dress code but you see the more higher up in the social ranks girls wearing skimpy dresses showing off there undergarments and not get caught. -there are some excellent teachers in this school but not enough to recommend kids here. I rather have people go to cloverhill than cosby
I have a Sophomore at Cosby High School. He would never consider attending any other school. He is very challenged academically and participates in Cross Country and Track. The only negative about the school is that it is way overcrowded. They need to move the HSSC, but then if they do that the HSSC would lose the students who live in the Cosby school district.
love this school and everything about it. Truly is the best high school in the nation.
My son is a sophomore, we are having an excellent experience here. The administration and faculty are top notch and go above and beyond for the students. The sports and band are fantastic and truly enhance the high school experience. Kudos.
my son graduated and daughter currently attends. new school and facilities, good parent involvement, great sports program, AP courses. definitely tops in the county.
Cosby High school is the best high school in the nation!! Excellent teachers, strong school leadership, challenging academic programs. 20+ AP courses. Awesome school, really the best around. Unlike other schools, teachers ENJOY teaching, and bring a special atmosphere. Send your kid to Cosby and you won't be disappointed.
Cosby is a great school. Cosby has a great, brand new facility. Learning is enhanced with top notch equipment and tools. The school is always clean and well maintained . The teachers are a balanced mix of young and experienced. There's opportunities for many different levels of learning, and the teachers do a wonderful job accommodating to student's learning and study habits. My negatives about Cosby is the overcrowding and the lack of a connection of the principal with students. Cosby may be new, but they do draw from a lot of areas, and classes and halls are filled with kids. My classes have had on average a 30/1 student teacher ratio. I do hear they have a method to limit this issue, but time will tell. Cosby's principal does not hold a good connection with students. From what I understand the principal are nice, but they're rarely seen during school hours. Making connections with your students is key for the school's well being, but that can't happen within their office. The principal is present at events, but they don't seem to want to be there. I do understand being principal has a lot of responsibility, but they seem to JUST do their job, and not more, which is a shame.
My son is a sophomore at Cosby High School and he really likes it. I am very pleased with the school atmosphere, the teachers and the academic programs. If your child plays an instrument, the Cosby Titan Band is very highly rated with an excellent instructor. Last year they earned their 1st ever Virginia Honor Band title.
Cosby High School, besides being a beautiful building, has a fantastic arts program. My granddaughter is in the band there and I don't think I have ever heard a better school band. Additionally, she is able to take some college classes in this, her junior year.
I'm a senior at Cosby High School and I take great pride in saying I attend 'The Best High School In the Nation'. I have no complaints about this school and consider my education at Cosby to be superior. I attended another school freshman year before Cosby was opened and I believe Cosby trumps this school greatly. It really is the BEST HIGH SCHOOL IN THE NATION!
I'm a sophmore at Cosby, and I have to admit that it is an exceptional high school. The teachers are amazing, and know how to make the curriculum bearable. The athletics program is beyond excellent, and sort of give you bragging rights when you encounter students from other high schools. The band program is also amazing, and I'm not just saying that because I have friends who are in the band. Their Christmas concert was spectacular this year and it was all so captivating, it almost makes you forget for a second that you're listening to a high school band. Now the only qualm that I have about the school, and it took me awhile to realize this, but the administration seems to lack a connection with the students. But overall, you'd be lucky to attend Cosby, I know I am. Cosby truly is 'The Best High School is the
I am a parent with students that attend Cosby High School and also friends with many of the teachers at Cosby. My children are consistently challenged and feel that they are receiving a top-notch education. The extracurriculars are great as well. The school is wonderful with the exception of the principal. The principal never leaves her office and many of the staff members feel that morale is very low because she is constantly out to get them and micromanages from her office.
This school has an active administration that is interested in all aspects of student life. In addition to taking an active role in planning events for the students, the principal and head of guidance make themselves available to the community by sponsoring Titan nights in family homes that allow parents to meet and ask questions in small groups. There is a tremendous focus on academics and the teacher population devotes many hours outside of the classroom to support the success of the students. The school has an innovative homework recovery program that holds the students accountable for all assignments.
I am a current senior at cosby high school and I absolutly love it. We have amazing extracurriculars and co-curriculars (including show choir which is absolutly amazing) and amazing teachers and administration. While Dr.Mayo has some work to do and needs to be more envolved with her school she does what she has to do to make out school 'the best school in the nation'. In regards to what another poster said about 'c' and 'z' level classes i am currently enrolled in them and find that in only one of my classes do i find that people are distracting. Most of them i find the same as i would in an honors class and that is that the students want to learn and are striving. I was offended by that because not all of us are like that. Think before you speak.
The administration at Cosby is so completely out of touch with the community, it is beyond shocking. The principal never leaves her office and didn't know that teachers from John Tyler came to the school for Dual Enrollment; she thought the kids went there. She also didn't know that there was a show choir at all, let alone an award winning one. It is very disappointing because there is no where to address concerns, nor even suggestions. The PTSA is completely useless and most comprised of individuals who are afraid to speak up lest 'they take it out on my child'. It's deplorable. Some of the teachers, but certainly not all are motivated and caring, but when you have an administation that doesn't attend any school functions whatsoever, it's awfully hard to expect your staff to show any level of enthusiasm.
I am currently attending Cosby High School for my second school year. Don't listen to many of the other reviewers! This school does have it's problems, such as the occasional fight, but other than that it provides a great learning environment. Most of the teachers are friendly and fully accredited, and while the staff may seem strict at times, they are only doing their job to keep the building safe.
Cosby is strict and unreasonable at times. Students are not motivated to do well.
I have two 9th grade students at this school. One is in honors level classes and one is in C level classes. The honors classes are exceptional. My daughter is learning and being challenged on a daily basis! The C level classes have proven disappointing. I had hoped that my daughter would be challenged and pushed to excel. That is not the case. At back to school night my husband and I went to several of both of their classes. You could feel the difference. The honors teachers have high expectations for their students. The C level teachers actually said, 'I don't believe in homework. They get enough homework in math class.' Then when we went to C level math class and that teacher said, 'I don't believe in homework. They get enough homework in their other classes.' It is very sad.
