As an alumni of New Kent High School and now a parent of a very well rounded, exceptionally well behaved honor student of New Kent High School, I have only the highest regards for this school. It is truly a parents dream to feel the warmth of the staff and the students, with only a few exceptions occasionally. The new high school is really nice and offers all the amenities of the other local schools which also have overcrowding issues and more concerns of violence. Basically, students who WANT a good education and experience in high school, has the opportunity before them at New Kent...WELCOME ABOARD!

New Kent is the most boring and uneventful school ever. The principal tried to ban camo...come on now...we have one pep rally per year, and it always ends abruptly. Our prom is at a race track...seriously. But I can say that most of the teachers are the absolute BEST!!! They're the high point of the day....well, next to lunch, of course....

New Kent High is a wonderful school. They have plenty of opportunities. Classroom size is relatively small, and most of the teachers are very active in student progress. They care about the individual, and offer all the help you could need.

new kent is not a reccomendable placa for your children to get an education as a senior now i have found that there is low administrative support. and nearly everyhting is centered around trying to keep our 'testing credentials' high and our mediocre sports teams the teachers are great... most of them care a great amount for the students, however the administration and school board limits their abilities. recently the school has started to build a great arts department, however the administrators decided to attemptto cancel a summer play and then re-instate it, however still keeping a strong limit on what they can do, the school also has very few advanced classes. ad the school system has money, however it never makes it into the budget, other than the athletics, it has taken 5 years to get proposals for the new school built, when the current building is extremely overpopulated.

As a former student of NK Schools, I must say that they have truly grown over the past few years. They have added numerous extra curricular activities for the students as well as many new sports for the students to participate in. The atmosphere in the school is very safe and calm. They offer a lot of programs for the youth which is very important to me. Programs such as Gifted Performing Arts, Oddyssey of the Mind, Advanced Acting, Drama Club, Spanish Club, Fellowship of Christian Atheletes, etc., There is always something for the young people to be involved in that help for an extrodinary learning expierience. The teachers love what they do and they do it very well which is also an important part of going to school. If you have teachers that love what they do then the students can learn to love it as well!

I think overall NK Schools pretty good. My daughter is a junior and has done very well. I think the key to a good educations is parent and student envolvement. In such a small school system it is hard to offer more advanced classes along with offering opportunities for students who need vocational training, but I think as the school system growes more will be offered. There are teachers that are really good and some that are not at all good. Both of my children have been involved with student life and gotten a lot out of the system. It's all in what you make it. I do like the smaller school because it give students a chance to participate in all activities. In larger schools students tend to get lost.

As a parent of a currently enrolled student at the high school, I think my child is getting a mediocre education, at best. There are too few opportunities for advanced students, and the teachers are too overwhelmed by their workload to offer much in the way of enrichment activities. Foreign languages are especially weak (only French and Spanish offered, poorly taught)and mathematics are also limited and not taught with modern approach. Athletics are emphasized heavily (good if your student plans to attend college on a football scholarship) and some funding is shunted to the athletic program which I feel would be better spent on academics. The school budget is so tight that my child had to share a textbook in one of her classes, and teachers can't make copies of announcements because there is a paper shortage! There are some dedicated, caring teachers who are trying their best, however.

I am not a parent of a student in this school, I am a student! I have been going to New Kent Schools since the very beginning and I am very pleased! We are well taught and the teachers are great! We have a great student enviroment, there are the bad times but mostly the good! In our school we try to get along with everybody and so far we have mostly succeeded with the exception of a very few! Thank you for reading my review and I hope to see your child enter our enviroment! --Tracy

The actual school system is not that well organized. Students who have parents on the school board have unfairly gotten out of trouble when others remained disciplined for drinking alcohol while participating in VHSL sports. Some teachers don't reach requirements, and the student handbook is not closely followed. But there are some devoted teachers.
