Dozier is an AMAZING school. I wish we could sit where ever we wanted at lunch and have a little more freedom but overall i enjoyed all of my years here. The teachers are great and always keep you on task and help you with whatever you need whether its personal or about school at the same time. Alot of teachers at Dozier can relate to your problems. There are comments about it lacking socialability and things but it really depends on your own opinion and not anyone elses. If it were mine, i'd say go to Dozier.
the school is terrible social wise the kids bully you and throw things at you they also make fun of you the teachers are great and try to help you out in every way that you can but the school socially is very crude rude disrespectful foul language inappropriate talking fight almost every other month and bashing moments in the hallways and i f you dont fit in you just dont there is no way to come back from .
Lack of communications between parents and school staff. The over all appreance is also lacking. Looks run down from the out side.
We transferred to the area summer of 2010, and my daughter has started her middle school career at Dozier. I am very impressed with the teachers! There are two certified teachers in each classroom, and they show they care. They also maintain discipline and behavior, which is so important to the learning environment. My daughter is thriving academically. The middle school sports program only started two years ago, and considering, they do a fair job. The coaches put in a lot of time and effort; it certainly is not elite athletics, but I'm happy they are incorporating sports into the school as so many kids benefit from the team atmosphere and experience.
I love Dozier. The teachers are caring and want all of us to be successful. So does Mrs. Seiders the school principal. Dozier is a great place!
I like this school. It has a nice atmosphere, the teachers aren't drill instructors, and the area isn't that bad. Mrs. Seiders is a great principal and the teachers are always ready to help.
I love this school I have been going here since 6th grade and im going into 8th the teachers are excellent, they will help you with anything they are awesome!!!
I've been going to Dozier for two years and I LOVE it! The teachers on my team at school offer a lot of extra help by staying after school on tuesdays and thursdays and allowing students to come to their classroom during lunch. There are also a lot of extra-curricular activities to keep the students busy. Our principal, Ms. Barnett, shows amazing leadership qualities and I think she has really turned the school around. It'll be sad to see her leave and she will be missed.
This was my daughters first year at Dozier, starting the 6th grade and I have to say that I am disappointed in the education my daughter has received. When I called there to voice my concerns about a particular subject and teacher, I feel like my concern were not addressed. I was also told that the 6th graders would not be having SOLs in this subject until 7th grade. Well....come to find out they do, and I don't feel that my daughter will do well at all.
I love this school. Dozier gives me a lot of extracurricular activities I can do. Their activities are so fun and ingenous. As I saw Parent Involvement has 3 stars. Well, I think that they want kids, like myself, to branch out..and maybe do some things on their own. Basicly I love Dozier and everything in it. Dozier is a great school and Dozier makes me want to go to school, and learn, every day. I Dozier!
I think dozier is a good school because of the teachers and the awsome leaders of the school. but for the record Miss. diggs is an okay teacher at the end of the year. P.S fix the roof
Dozier is an excellent school. I have been going to this scholl every since sixth grade. I've watched the chages over the last 3 years and I feel we have made wonderful progress. The new principal is amazing! She is the former Reservior principal and she has done a great job so far. I am part of the Student Concil Association and we are doing an outstanding job working on the school. Dozier is under rated, its really a great school.
My three kids have all gone to this school and loved it. They recently recieved a new principal after a long period of time and the school has come up out of a huge hole. They have an excelant music department with the most students in all city chorus, band, and orchestra. Their band recently won the first place and overall trophie. They have after school activities every tuesday and thursday and have two to three basketball games that encourage phisical activity. There is just a good enviroment compared to many of the other schools in the city and is the best school system my family has been in.
We have moved a lot through the years and found this school to be very poor. There are too many students who don't care leaving the staff and security very busy. There are too many negative distractions. It has been my experience in other states and other school system that when your students grade drops to a 'C', a parent teacher conference is in order. However, if you request a conference at Dozier? You will be told they have to save the conference slots for the students who are failing. A school is only as good as the community it is in.
I have had 3 children go to this school. I am military and have seen several middle schools throughout the country and here in Virginia. In my experience the discipline is the best I have ever seen in hallways between classes (prime time for most incidents). Older students are not allowed in the halls where the younger students are. The classroom environments have varied with each of my children and is dependent upon the teacher. However all of the teachers my kids have had have been outstanding. My oldest graduated HS two years ago and my youngest is fortunate enough to have some of the same teachers. I have been very pleased and believe that this is the best public middle school in Newport News and Hampton. I have many friends with children in other area schools and our Dozier experience has surpassed each although Resevoir has good reviews also
My son went here last year. Being Military they attend many schools, and by far this is the worst school I have ever seen. The children run around and the teachers lack control of their classrooms!
I think the school has some great teachers. I am not impressed in general by the assistant principal of seventh grade or by the security personnel. I do not think yelling at students should be a rule of thumb. I also think some teachers need to find more time to teach students who are having trouble in certain subjects. A lot of parents would be thankful and fully cooperative to let the children stay after school. Thank you
