Rosemont is now the Academy of International Studies at Rosemont. It's Meadowbrook, but now in the Rosemont building. I highly recommend this magnet school. My son attended sixth grade in the Meadowbrook building and continued seventh and eighth grade in the Rosemont building. The only thing I do not like about the school is the bullying. Norfolk Public Schools has a very lax bullying policy. They say no tolerance, but when confronted with a problem, they do not solve it. They fill out "witness" forms by the children and make their conclusion from that. The opportunities to attend this school are small, and the applicaiton process starts in elementary school. The programs here are extensive. My son has earned high school credits in 7th and 8th grade. He has also particpated in all-city orchestra. The orchestra instructor is one of a kind. She is very talented and does well with our youth.

My daughter attended this school for only one year; and I knew after that year that I didn't want my child there anymore. I was very disatisfed with select teachers at this school. There were about four faculty that made a favorable impression on me. There was a Math teacher that retired at the end of the year, a gifted teacher, a Science teacher in her 20s with tons of energy that I suspect may have moved to another school by now, and there was a counselor that really cared about the students. I didn't get a feel for the principal, I didn't really feel her presence or observe her at many events (very differenct from other school experiences). There was an English teacher that stood out to me as the world's worst, and the other teachers were average and below to me.

Rosemont is a great school. I don't think too many parents know how special it is. As a parent, I feel I am really informed about what is going on. My child is challenged and I know her teachers care. The whole tone of the building has changed with the new principal. I knew that she meant business about students being in school when she cracked down on tardiness to school. As parents, we can't say we weren't warned it was coming. That's one of the things I like best about her, she is in constant communication with parents at home. If something changes, then parents are given plenty of warning and an explanation for the change. I am happy that my daughter attends Rosemont.
