As a military family, my children have attended several elementary schools and Willoughby Elementary is one of the best. Class size is small, the teachers are caring and knowledgeable, and the principal is very accessible. Do not overlook Norfolk Public Schools as a good choice when looking at schools. My kids have been extremely happy and successful at Willoughby!

Willoughby is mainly children from military families. The school is close-knit with the children and staff. The school is small in size and the staff is wonderful at helping families transferring in or out.

About the tests

In 2012-2013 Virginia used the Standards of Learning (SOL) tests to assess students in reading and math in grades 3 through 8, writing in grades 5 and 8, and science in grades in 3, 5 and 8. The SOL tests are standards-based, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of Virginia.
