Burton High offers excellent education opportunities despite being located in an economically depressed area of the State and Nation. It also has a small population to fund it. In face of those two variables Norton Schools has found ways to excel and is constantly achieving academically and athletically. ~ChrisB.
This is a wonderful school they are just like family. Such a wonderful school!
Burton High/Norton Elementary are just as good of schools as any other considering that the abilities and options are so limited in Southwest VA. There are just less opportunities in small areas, however any education is as good as the effort that you put into it. Being sucessful in life is the result of you taking advantage of what life has to offer so blaming the lack of it on school teachers is very cowardly. Living in a small town makes everyone subject to gossip so if you or your children behave poorly and anyone (including teachers) talk about it and you are offended then be a better parent, or person in general and you will not have to be bothered anymore. Go Raiders!
I am a former student and can say both positive and negative comments. I had some really great teachers but also a few that taught me lessons on just how petty and small minded a person can really be. I think all in all I became the sucess I am today in spite of Burton and not because of it. But hey, if you are stuck in Norton its the only place you can go, so good luck. Go Raiders!
An awesome school system with great teachers and education quality. The teachers care more about their students because the school and student body are smaller than the surrounding county schools. The size of the student body also provides a friendly atmosphere and helps the students and staff form a close connection with eachother.
Teachers need to watch what they say and do to certain kids! Treat them all fairly!
