I am very pleased as a parent with the learning that is going on at St. Joseph School. I have seen it first hand watching my pre-schooler turn into a 1st grader enjoying his learning and homework. It is a struggle financially but well worth it. My hat goes off to the teachers and all they do for their students. You see and feel the love as you walk through the building. The building itself could be in better shape but they are working on it. As well as improving the technology usage by the students.

St Joseph's is wonderful place and a perfect place for my daughter. She was being overlooked in a class of 33 kids in public school, and was falling behind. She is now in a positive and encouraging environment and is catching up with her peers. I owe this to SJS. She isn't a number, but part of the St Joe's community. Our whole family feels a part of it. She is in the choir and playing the flute. Neither available in public elementary schools. Oh, and she is very proud of her catholic school plaid uniform.

I have to disagree with the previous review from Feb 6, 2012. The leadership is new as of this year and it is quite strong. SJS has increased their enrollment by nearly 30 percent in the last year which puts enrollment at a very healthy number. There is a lot underway now that will improve the school for the long term. The school consistently molds adolescents into upstanding young leaders who will have the skills, confidence, and morals to succeed after they leave SJS. The teachers are dedicated and fantastic and have the time and energy to work with students individually to meet their needs. You won't find a better Pre K-8th grade school in the Tri Cities area. The school also has a partnership with the University of Notre Dame's ACE program which has helped bring young, energetic teachers to the school to compliment the skilled veteran teachers already at SJS.

Unfortunately St. Joseph's is lacking in many key areas. Every organization is only as strong as it's leadership. The administration is weak and constantly changing. Most of the teachers are very rigid and set in there ways. Teachers are unwilling to work with students at their individual levels and needs. Hopefully, through time the school will modernize it's facilities, up it's standards for teachers and staff, and once a again become a shining light within the community.

St. Joseph's provides highly qualified, positive & caring teachers, and a challenging academic program, in an energetic environment that is diversified culturally and economically, like "the real world". St. Joseph's Catholic School welcomes all faiths. Administration is experienced and forward thinking. Dually accredited (SACS and VCEA), St. Joe's was accepted in 2010 (among the first in Virginia) into the ACE program through The University of Notre Dame. Currently, (2011) 4 teachers are working on Masters Degrees through this resource program. The school is strongly supported by parental and community involvement and dedication. Students learn valuable lessons through community outreach and service. Each morning begins with prayer, The Pledge of Allegiance, and the school's "Peacemaker Pledge, creating a strong foundation for how each child begins and conducts his or her day. St. Joe's offers a strong academic program, small classes (allows more individual help and more in-depth teaching). Last year (in 5th grade) my child began SAT prep! Foreign language, art, technology, music and sports are also included. New this year, programs for Homeschool and Virtual High School.

St Joseph's School is a very good school, the one caveat is that there is no Foregin Language Program. The New Principal, Ms. Diane Young is excellent, she is extremely caring and compassionate with students, teachers and families. Ms. Smith the PK 3 teacher is very nuturing and my kids fell in love with her. Other Standouts are Ms. Scimone who really takes the time to get to know each child and is available to assist them if they fall behind. Parents can choose to be very involved through volunteerism and or PTA. My children are no longer there but what they learned and gained from St. Joes is still with them.

I went to this school for several years. We left the area and I graduated from another school... but I learned more, and had a better environment in St Josephs than the larger, better furnished public school. Much more, I learned a life long appreciation of my faith.

My son was 3 when he began he did not know his colors, the bible, sharing as he was an only child for a while. By November 2007 he knew his colors, asked me if I wanted to the know the story of King Herad, Jonah, etc. What a marvelous school. God bless you all.

My son comes home every single day with something new he has learned. Happy and singing joyfully all the time. Hats off to all the wonderful teachers.

Academic programs are top rate. My son was in Kindergarten and by Christmas was writing and reading. The self confidence or negativity which was given by the teacher was very disappointing. More support was needed for the number of students in the class. However, my son has learned a lot and he is ahead of his cousin who is in public school. He had music and gym twice a week and there are many extracurricular activities the students could be involved with. Some of the parents are very involved, however, the school has a policy that all parents have to earn 25 service points working at the school or by suppling a service or need. Unfortunately a lot of the parents choice to just pay for their service points, which is fine but is it really fair to other parents and students who are involved.

Thank Heavens my grandchildren go to Saint Joseph! I'm not a parent or guardian; just the Grandmother, but I have been so impressed with the intelligent and caring management of the students. I'm proud to say that we have some smart little ones in our family. It's a joy to see them blossom in the environment created by the teachers and staff of Saint Joseph. We love Mrs.Bonner;(she's the Principal). I'm so glad our children made this smart choice for the education of our family's next generation. If you enroll your child and join the team at Saint Joseph, it's my impression that you will find yourself among committed parents and teachers who love children.(If you're not an involved parent, you'll probably feel really out of place.) At Saint Joseph, it's all about the kids.

As a parent of two students who are in their seventh year at St Joseph School, I am proud to review this school. I have never seen more dedicated teachers who continually strive to foster a learning environment which enhances the education of our children. Christian values are taught throughout the learning process. The parent teacher organization is very active and has become an integral part of the school. The PTO board, as well as the staff and teachers, continue to encourage parents to have an active role in the education of their children. This school is small enough to have individualized attention for each student but also provides a well rounded curriculum for all students. The before and after school programs offer a continuation of the learning environment with structured activities. It is a true blessing to have this school available for nurturing the children of today.
