Nothing says AWESOME like repeat business, and I have fully enjoyed this school and it's administration to the point of having enrolled all 3 of my children. I cannot say enough about the efforts the teachers make to ensure EACH child learns and masters their grade level. Because the teachers stick to one curriculum, the continuity of education is remarkable and its excellence is proven with their yearly national testing. My 5 star rating is clearly MY opinion and with any school, public OR private, there is always someone who gets their feathers ruffled and finds fault. If you want a school that is genuinely interested in your child being successful and prepared for college, look no further. This is the hidden gem of Richmond Private Schools.
Im not sure what to think of this school. My son LOVES it, but he does not like change. I must say he has learned a lot. He reads better than his cousin who is 2 grades higher. I feel this is because of ABeka books, not the teachers. The administration needs to be replaced, mainly because they are rude, and seem to only care about thier children. As another writter said administration is not open to suggestions, or change. I cant even say it goes in one ear and out the other, because they are quick to shut you down when they fell as if you are saying something they will not like. Also there is no fun learning. Teachers will not go outside of ABeka books. In addition, most of the teachers there do not have degrees in education. I don't even think they send teachers to Pencicola, the head quaters of ABeka Books.
I am rating this school 1 out of 5 stars because, out of all the school experiences we've had, this one ranks at the very bottom. Since the original principal left about 5 years ago, VCA has been on a slow moral decline. Our family has experienced far greater results from the public schools in the area. We have also witnessed disturbing behavior from the school leadership and the church leadership from Faith Landmarks Ministries. They tend to get very defensive in situations where they feel like they are being challenged. Suggestions from parents and teachers go through one ear and right out the other. Consequently, there is a very high turnaround ratio with the teachers and the students. While my kids did receive a decent education there from a couple of the teachers at VCA, the psychological risks that go along with that type of atmosphere were simply not worth it to us.
All three of my children have graduated from VCA and it was the best experience. My youngest was a VCA from K4-12th. They have all been well prepared academicly and spiritually for their futures!
