i am currently a seventh grader going in 8th grade at Pocahontas middle school this school is amazing easy to make friends bully free but needs to work on cyber bullying but overall good school

My son is in 6th grade and has had a very easy transition to Middle School thanks to the wonderful staff and administration. Most of the teachers have been engaged and approachable. There is a lot of school spirit and "Hawk Pride". The staff does a lot to recognize student efforts and accomplishments! Advanced academics are on-par with many of the private schools and technology is top notch!

The administration is unfriendly and uncaring. Pro-child they are not! They don't care to hear your issues and tend to interpret their regulations how they see fit. Fairness and equitable do not exist in this school's vocabulary nor does guidance counseling. "Let's stick to him/her" is their disciplinary philosophy for many singled out students. The adminstration does not seem to care if they leave a child behind. I am looking forward to the day my child leaves this pretentious school.

I 100% despise this school. It is way too preppy and the people there make you feel like you're nothing. There is a lot of bullying, and the teachers notice, and they don't do anything about it! The faculty is rude and seems like the don't even want to talk to you! Although it is good academically, it is horrible socially. I'm glad that I am going to be moving soon because I can't stand this school!!

i agree with the poster from 2/19/10 and i cant agree with you more. there is too much favoritism here and money talks. i have had 2 at this school already and hope the third doesnt go there.sport gteams are predetermined as i have been informed by 2 faculty members. its all about the rich kid syndrome here.

My fourth child is now in seventh grade at Pocahontas; the first two attended a different middle school. The level of attention to each student provided by the administration here is exceptional, though I would like to see more involvement by the guidance counselors. At most schools, unfortunately, it's only the children who act out who are provided help; those who suffer quietly slip by under the radar. Perhaps the previous parent needed to take his or her concerns up the administrative ladder in order to deal with any bullying appropriately. As to the materialism, I agree it's an issue at PMS and at all of our far west end schools, but I also think it's part of the middle-school student's struggle to fit in. The instructional level at PMS is generally good, and I have found most teachers to be very responsive to parental concerns.

The 'jock' and 'rich kid' syndrome is very prevalent at this school. The kids are so focused on material things its a wonder any succeed. The bullying is rampant and the teachers do absolutely nothing. I've had 2 kids at this school and the entire three years were spent wishing it was over. Hate it!!

It is okay. I wish that we had more study hall time. I miss my first Pocahontas principal Mr. Honeycutt still was the principal. I have had a different principal every year and it has been hard.
