In the Henrico County Public Schools District (HCPS), students can attend their neighborhood schools or, for middle- and high schoolers, participate in specialty programs that offer more specialized and college prep instruction. High school students can also participate in technical training programs. Gifted education services are available for elementary, middle and high school students. The district has alternative programs for at-risk youths.
Under the federal No Child Left Behind law, students attending a Title I school designated as “in need of improvement” have the right to attend a higher-performing school in the district.In Virginia children can attend charter schools, and low-income students are eligible for scholarship funding to attend private schools.
