Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

My child started attending RVCS when she started kindergarten. She is now in the second grade. We will have our second child starting there in kindergarten in the fall. I can't say enough how pleased I am with the school. The teachers the are all certified and degreed, that is hard to find in Christian schools. The staff genuinely care for the development, both academically and spiritually in every child. From administration on through to the volunteer program, we have been well pleased. I would recommend this school to anyone looking for a quality Christian education.

Some of these one star posts do not surprise me. From my experience with this school, the "Christianity" they try to teach is of the typical phony "holier than thou" variety which many of us are, unfortunately, painfully aware. If you want them to bestow the title of "brother" or "sister" on you, just claim to believe whatever they say and never ever question their very false assumptions about the bible, basic science or reality. I would never send my children there.

Rvcs is an amazing school! Not just for the academics but the Biblical truths and principles that are reinforced. They work with parents to help your children grow academically and spiritually. Dealing with teachers and staff is like dealing with friends. They genuinely care about the whole family! It is such a blessing to have the opportunity to send our children here to receive a great education but also great biblical principles that will be instilled in them forever.

Our school serves Preschool 2 years of age through grade 12. Those of us on staff are unified in our mission to teach a Biblical world view through out the curriculum. Graduates from our school are well prepared for further education. We are accredited by the Association of Christian Schools International. We currently enroll 300 plus students.

RVCS is a great school. It's very strong academically as well as spiritually. Our family has been very happy here for the past twelve years; it is a great family atmosphere. So, if you are looking for a school that will love, teach and prepare your children for life with Christ as the center then RVCS is the school for you.

RVCS has great leadership in its principals. The student body is friendly and caring. The school provides extra resource help for students with special needs. While the academics are excellent, the spiritual life has the greatest focus, teaching the students to live Christ-like and honor God in everything they do.

Great Christian school! Teachers are really interested in my children's physical and spiritual well being. Great academic challenge and the teachers urge my children to do their very best...as unto the Lord. Thank you for providing a biblical safe haven for my children to learn and make the most of who God wants them to be!

I am writing in response to the review that follows this comment. As administrator of the school, I want to confirm that we have entrance tests, but we never turn a student away based on the results of the tests. The tests simply give us an idea as to where a student is in the areas of math and language arts. This is done for students enrolling in grades 1-6.

Five stars .....not....... zero stars is more like it. I had children at RVCS for 10 years. I spent much effort in getting them to apply fruit of grace, mercy and forgiveness (since we all have fallen short of God's perfection). I finally left, with broken hearted children I might add. The lessons learned there were not reading, writing and arithmetic with the virtues of Christ to boot... but ridicule, wrath and angry retaliation for those that need agape love while learning how to reach a world for Christ. They shoot the wounded here and call it accountability... NO THANKS.

I used to love this school when I was in the younger grades, I did well in school and had friends and the teachers seemed like they cared. But this school does have a pretty awful bullying problem. I have had to stand up for one of my close when I went there time and again because she was larger. The boys would put awful notes in her desk asking her to go out with her or the other and then make fun of her for believing it. It has damaged my friends and siblings' image of themselves as well as the way they treat other people. Though I had a great time with some of the teachers who really care and when it is brought to light, do something about this problem. Academics are very up and down, it really depends on the teacher you get for each subject if you do well or not. I did leave that school feeling prepared for whatever hit me, but I chalk that up to the teacher who taught and truly cared for me while I was there.

Being a student here was a very unpleasant experience. There were certain teachers that I loved but most of them were very biased and unhelpful. Being a "Christian" is easy here if you just follow rules that they throw out and agree with everything they say. There are no other opinions that they will listen to. I will say that I was very prepared in English when I left and am thankful for that aspect. Math was a completely different story. The kids tend to look down on other kids if they do not act in a way that is acceptable to them. Many students here are faculty children and there are many cliques. I know this has a five star rating in the community, but living in Roanoke I know that in the actual community many people dislike this school and church associated as they are known to be very strict and unforgiving. There were good things I experienced here, I still have close relationships with my friends after graduation, but we all felt the same way about this place: excited to leave.

Roanoke Valley Christian Schools is a great school! I can say that from the aspect of not only a current teacher, but from attending the school as well. I enjoyed my time as a student tremendously and felt adequately prepared for college. I was blessed to be able to come back, upon graduation, and teach at this great school!

Even though I am a graduate of RVCS as well as a teacher, I am also a parent of three children who have graduated or are currently attending this school. Each of my children have been given many opportunities both inside and outside the classroom to grow and learn using a Biblical worldview. Their teachers have challenged them academically and spiritually. I'm glad we are a part of RVCS!

We love RVCS! We have three students there...a 5th grader, a 1st grader, and a k-3 student. All of the teachers are well-qualified and very caring. The administration is outstanding. RVCS is a place that prepares students for the real world by educating them with a Christian worldview. We wouldn't have our kids anywhere else!

Roanoke Valley Christian was a blessing to me and my children. We came to Roanoke, last New Year's Eve, because I accepted a position with the U.S. Forest Service. We didn't know anyone here, locally. The RVCS family took us in, with open arms! The RVCS staff, especially the front office staff, is always helpful and genuinely concerned about my children's education, safety, and spirituality. My daughter currently attends the elementary school, and enjoys the challenges of 4th grade and all it offers. This school year, my son is attending a public high school, with more opportunities for the sports he enjoys, and ROTC; but if RVCS had track, cross-country, and ROTC, the public school would not be an option! I am very pleased with RVCS. Go eagles!

I graduated from RVCS, and I now send my child to the school due to its academic excellence and its Christ-centered focus. After graduating from RVCS, I was well prepared for the challenges that the large state university presented. I had friends from different high schools tell me that they were not prepared for the college work load that the university was presenting. When I went to college I felt prepared for the work load and academic excellence strived for by my college professors due to my attendance at RVCS. Now my child comes home, and I am amazed at all the things he is learning. The school is loving and caring. It truly feels like a family. I highly recommend RVCS!

Our family's experience with RVCS has been one of great appreciation. We have 2 graduates and one in Middle School. Our older children have been not only prepared to handle college level academics, but have been spiritually, mentally and emotionally prepared to handle life away from home. I feel truly blessed to have had the privilege for our children to attend RVCS and that faculty continue to ask about our children in college. It is truly a family atmosphere. Even if there has been a disagreement it has been handled in a Christ-like manner with restoration of the relationship the goal. I can highly recommend it without reservation.

RVCS is a school that I would recommend to any family that is looking for a spiritually based and highly rigourous program. My experience with RVCS has been awesome. The teachers are well trained and are dually certified. The quality of leadership is great as well. I transferred my daughters for reasons outside of RVCS and they maintained close contact with us which led to us returning. With that being said, they are the most caring people I have ever met.

I wouldn't consider sending my child to any other school!

RVCS and it's association with Shenandoah Baptist Church have been a blessing to our family. After moving to the area from out of state, the teachers and staff at RVCS made the transition as smooth as it could possibly be for our son. Their academic standards and focus on biblical living are top notch. And we thank the Lord daily for leading us to RVCS and SBC.

RVCS has been a life changing experience for our 2 children. Both participate in the Resource program and our oldest also receives educational therapy through the NILD program available at the school. Our kids tell everyone how much they love their school. They like the teachers, the classroom activities and the beautiful campus. As parents, we are truly grateful for the kindness and patience that our kids have enjoyed from all the staff/faculty, from the principal to the classroom aides. The peer model has been wonderful, as well. RVCS truly believes in partnering with parents to promote a personal relationship with the Lord and a love of learning for each student, whatever level of their ability. We are so grateful for RVCS!

I have been very pleased with RVCS over the past 5 years we've had our daughters attend. We had no problems with the public school they previously attended, but we thought a Christian education would provide them with a more solid foundation in this life. They have grown in Christ & have never suffered academically. In fact, they have blossomed academically with the smaller class sizes & corresponding teacher attention. Furthermore our girls talk often about how thankful they are for their school - THEY actually say those words!

Four of my grandchildren attend RVCS. This is a wonderful school taught by caring teachers with strong Christian beliefs. One of my grandchildren has special needs which is addressed in a caring way by the school. Academic excellence is also a big part of why my grandchildren go to RVCS. All of my grandchildren love attending and would not want to return to the public school system.

This school is a wonderful opportunity for children to excel on many different levels. There are opportunities in sports, art, science and even theater. When you walk on this campus, immediately you notice how polite and well mannered and caring the kids (all ages) are to the parents and to each other. It is amazing! This attitude starts at the top with the administration and the teachers and is emulated by the students. The greatest thing is the top quality education is centered around Christian values and the Holy Bible. Sending our child to RVCS is the best decision we have made in our child's educational path.

Roanoke Valley Christian School has been a really big blessing not only to my kids but my wife and I as well. When we first started taking our twin boys there we were new parents trying to raise them the best possible way. I went to RVCS in the 5th grade and graduated in 1982. I loved it! When it came to make the decision of where to send my two boys to school, there was no doubt they would go to RVCS. We live in a community with a very good school across the street from our house. We choose to send our children to the BEST school. As an educator and former homeschooling parent of 5 children, I appreciate the high academic standards, the biblical emphasis, and pro-family values the school offers. The teachers and staff are well-trained, qualified, and love their students. I homeschooled for 11 years and am thankful for that opportunity, but I do not regret the decision we made to place our children into a Christian school. They have excelled academically, socially, and spiritually during the past year.
