The atmosphere is wonderful! Parents are great and teachers are astounding!
My son has attended this school for 2 1/2 years ,I'am very happy with all of the staff and the teachers are exceptionally great teachers the best I have seen by far, they have great teaching skills ,and they make learning for my son and even myself much fun! The learning that is takeing place at Nottoway for my son is something I told one of his teachers and other staff members (we never learned what the children today are learning!) I think it is great! For the first time ever my son made honor roll this year! How awesome is that ,he never would have succeeded if we continued to live in Hampton Roads, the schools here are learning so much more and I could not be anymore happier! I belieave in the staff at Nottoway Elem.
When this school opened it was a wonderful place! Teachers were happy and there were lots of great things going on for the children. Now the administator leaves a lot to be desired and teacher turnover is very high. It is very disappointing to see what has happened to the school moral. The teachers who continue to stick it out, though, are very good. Luckily they have a great work ethic and a true desire to help kids learn. The parent involvement is high at this school.
The only negative I have with Nottoway are, wishing the school offered more in extracurricular activities and would call or send a note home if the student is hurt at school. However in the three years my two daughters have attended Nottoway I have been very impressed with Ms. Hicks and most of the teaching staff. The parent involvement seems very high, I am always impressed with the large turn out for PTA, award ceremonies and just general volunteers at the school. My daughters have both grown a lot at this school and it is nice to see how much they are learning and how their teachers really seem to care and are so dedicated to their classes. It is nice to have a Principal who is so interested in each student and is so friendly to parents & grandparents who come to the school.
There are/were many great teachers at this school but because of a poor administrator they, in my opinion, a very high rate of teacher turnover. Year after year children have teachers with now experience. Under the previous administrator the school had great potential. Parental involvement is high but changes are slow.
