Smithfield Middle School

My son currently attends SMS and we have been very pleased with this school. It's a small town, and most of the kids are nice--the school is VERY safe I never worry about sending my son here. The school is very strict about bullying-zero tolerance. The teachers are great, they continuously challenge the students but offer assistance as needed. The school offers AP Math and other courses. Their band program is awesome too. They encourage parent involvement and the office and staff respond promptly. Dr. Smith is the Principal and he is amazing. We had an issue with bullying-I emailed the school on a Sunday night and it was resolved by 9AM Monday morning. We're a military family so we hope to stay put for a few more years because this school is so good. PS: My son also has an IEP-they do a great job with this as well-tons of ideas, cooperative, etc.

If I had to chose any school in the county, I would definitly chose Smithfield Middle. The environment and the quality of instruction is unbelievable.

Overall: an average academic school, safe and friendly environment for students. I dislike Virginia's SOL as it drives the teacher's ciriculum and find subjects like reading receive less attention. In addition, Isle of Wight needs to evaluate their criteria for gifted programs as top students from other districts often don't 'qualify' due to differences in standardized tests and/or unusual criteria. The teachers and students at SMS are very friendly and it is a positive, safe atmosphere for students.

Smithfield Middle is ok. But the food price is horrible! The food is always cold! Take it from me ( a 12 yr old student) But I love going to school every day now since I've been at SMS

My son has been going to SMS for 3 yrs. From sixth to eigth grade. The overall staus isn't great quality what so ever. I have had many problems and I'm not impressed by the school.

My daughter has attended Smithfield Middle for 2 yrs now and we couldn't ask for a more involved school, principals, teachers, staff, everybody is so wonderful [with] great attitudes that reflect on our children. [Here s] to another great year [at a] #1 school!
