My child attends Riverview Elementary and overall I am very pleased with the school. This is a school where you feel absolutely welcome from the moment you enter the building. The principal and assistant principal both are very involved in the daily lives of the children and really care about each and every one of them. Many of the teachers are wonderful and are child directed but the leadership is rare. Riverview knows what's most important and they strive each day to educate them.
My daughter is a Kindergarten student here, and I am very impressed. The classrooms are large and well stocked. The teachers are friendly and well organized. The classes were ready to go the first day of school. Communication with the teachers and administration is easy. We get daily written reports, and have the email of the teacher and the assistant principal. The school is about 10 years old, but looks new; very clean and well kept. The school has advanced white boards and audio/video equipment in every classroom. (very high tech) The PTO is very active and has events throughout the year. I am very impresses with this school.
2 of my 4 kids went to this school. My oldest (18) started there when they first opened. Both completed elementary school there. I love the principal. My daughter actually had to teach 3 of her teachers to spell February! That was very sad. Other than that, these teachers are good - human beings. They are overwhelmed with paperwork and too many kids. They do not have the time or resources that our teachers used to have years ago. And while some have attitudes that the world is owed to them, so do many people in other positions so I applaud them for their willingness and desire to teach our future as best they can.
I think Riverview has a lot of work to do. My daughter is going on her 3rd year at Riverview. We are definately looking at moving to another school district or putting her in private school(if we can afford it). I feel that a lot of the teachers and staff are very careless. There is absolutely no one on one attention, unless you are disabled or just a bad kid. So, if your child ever needs a little extra help in a subject, forget it its like pulling teeth. This school just has the worst communication issues I have ever seen. Very unorganized! This has been my personal experience.
I have 2 children at this school and have been very pleased with all the teachers they have had. The staff cares about the students and there is alot of parent involevment. The music department does a wonderful job with putting on productions for all grade levels. The PTO is very active; a cook-out for families during the summer, carnival, school dance, etc. I would feel confident recomending this school to any family.
