INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

If you are one of the golden ones, the school is great, I'm sure. I have found it to be very elitist, not welcoming for kids with differences. If you want a good education and are willing to run the social gauntlet and just pray that your kid comes out with some self esteem left, this is your school. I find the new Principal after having a disastrous merry go round of 3 short term Principals to be uninvolved, uninspired and the leader of those kids that fit in.

As a military family, we've had the opportunity to explore various educational environments across the country. Colonial Forge High School was highly recommended by many different resources, and has a wonderful reputation / relationship with its community. For us, CFHS had a lot to live up to--we were absolutely amazed when our high expectations were not only met--but, greatly exceeded. The dedicated leadership staff is outstanding in relating to students by providing expectations, guidance, and care. They are present, visible, and accessible to the students throughout the school day. The resulting environment is one of unified commitment between the students and staff. The staff is phenomenal. The STUDENTS know that THEY are the priority, and that their future is theirs to build. We didn't know schools like this were still possible to find.

My school is very overpopulated. The academics are great but the people in the school are not as good. I just completed my freshman year and i learned a lot. Bad things- there were around 9 to 10 fights I new about, we had a drug raid that had about 10 students arrested, some days you can smell smoke in the restroom, we has hazing on the cross country bus, and we still do not have a principal, and I see a lot of bullying everyday. Goods thing- mostly great teachers, great athletics, the assistant principals are fantastic, the opportunities and options they provide you with are awesome. If you can afford a private school, go there.

Colonial Forge has not had a principal in a full-time capacity since the beginning of 2013 when the principal resigned. The principal who replaced her has been on medical leave for most of the 2013-2014 school year. Without a captain at the helm, even a good school suffers.

I am now in my third year at Forge and I love it!! The staff is always there to help and give support. They have a great athletics programs and electives that help you discover what you would like to do in the future. I definitely recommend going to this school.

I have gone to Forge for the last 3 years and am in my senior year! I love CFHS. We have great teachers (students so/so). There are really no fights, which is good because it does not interrupt the learning environment. If you want to go to a great school, this is one to consider. You'll love it there and it will be a great four years!

Excellent Teachers, Strong Leadership, Challenging Academic Programs, Practically every extra-ciricular activity know to mankind, Excellent Athletics Programs and Significant support internally as well as externally. The day for these children starts at 7:20 and on many many occasions, goes well into the night with activities or sports. As a parent,my Sophmore student is being recruited by major colleges including Ivy. Thank you to everyone engaged in the educational processes in Stafford County Virginia, your dedication and commitment is special.

I went to Forge for all 4 years of high school and absolutely loved the school. I thought that the teachers were great and always willing to help either before or after school. The extracurriculars were wonderful, I got the opportunity to go to Nashville and Orlando for academic competitions. In my opinion Forge is the best high school in the district. I still have two brothers that go to school there and they love it as well. Whenever I come home from college I go back and visit the school and the teachers genuinely seem interested in how I'm doing. Great school!

Colonial Forge High prepares students for college and prepares them for employment. I am very happy with the Commonwealth Governor's School program.

Awesome school...have had two kids go there and both did very well. One currently a Freshman at The College of William and Mary and the other a junior at Forge. CFHS is tough especially at the AP levels, but great prep for top end colleges.

I am very unhappy with the grading system, and the teachers aren't very helpful, except a select few. The only positive thing about this school is the Extracurricular activities. I do enjoy the drama program. I dislike most of my teachers, they are very crude and make obscene jokes. They pick on the children, and they make them feel worse about themselves. Although, I haven't particularly felt offended by any teachers, I have been offended by the way they act toward others. The office staff takes a really long time to answer requests, despite the fact that the staff is more than large enough to help students and parents needs.

Its the most intellectual challenging school in the area because it emphazises how important academics is in life. Evidence of this statement include alumnis being accepted into great schools such as V-Tech, Texas State, Flordia State, military academies, etc. If I had to choose from any school in this area, it would definitely be this one.

I personally was greatly appreciative of the staff and administration at CFHS. My children were extremely different in their learning styles, and both were met and challenged. The school extra ciricular activities were one of the greatest things for my youngest daughter. Ms. Renard (the greatest thing that could ever happen to any student) made each and every child she encountered feel academically gifted. She has continued communication with most of the students that I know, and continues to encourage them both socially and academically.

As a former student, I enjoyed every moment of my High School experience. The classes and teachers push the students to succeed in every aspect. The transition to college was quite easy for me because I was prepared. The extracurricular activities are also AMAZING! There are so many options to choose from. I ran cross country and track, was in NHS and Spanish club. I did not even scratch the surface of what I could have joined. The band is always topped ranked and so are a few of the sports teams. Parent involvement is also great. The schools hold many informative sessions for parents to ask questions and make comments. The teachers are also available for parents to call them. Overall, Colonial Forge gets an A++ and is the best high school in Stafford. GO EAGLES!!!!

I currently attend Colonial Forge, and I'd have to disagree with the last comment.Yes, people do come from different middle schools but there are plenty of opportunities to make friends, Colonial Forge has a great selection of after school activities, and if there is a ride problem you can wait for the activity bus. The teachers are great if there isn't enough class time to understand the subject most of them offer after school tutoring or their email address if students have questions. About the students being rude and not well behaved, that's only a small group of students, since CFHS is one of the most strict schools in Stafford county those student usually get the max. punishment for the crime. One negative thing about CFHS is that the teachers don't really give alternatives for supplies for projects if you can't afford them, mostly because that's not a problem for most.

I went to this school, and I can personally say I strongly did not enjoy my time there. The people that go to this school all came from different middle schools, so it was kind of hard to make friends with everyone. Also, the teachers weren't very good as well. Since the curriculum goes by so quickly, there is'nt enough time to actually understand what you are being taught. Also, the students were not well behaved at all. They were extremely loud in the hallways, and they were rude to their fellow students, staff, and teachers. The teachers werent that nice either. Overall, my expierence at this school was not good.

This school has huge parental support. In September they hold a information night about all the club opportunities for the students, we found this very informative. The school newspaper gives great information on college scholarships, well in advanced of the college deadlines. The principal is outside every morning helping to direct traffic. The band program offers many opportunites for kids of all skill levels to participate in extracurricular events. I have had great success getting in contact wih teachers over the phone and have set up my own conferences without any problems. My son feels he can get extra help form his teachers, and usually stays after school once during the week to go over any questions he has about homework. The school is about 8 years old. It's very open and bright. I'm not aware of any gun or drug issues with this school. They have many sports opportunities.

While no school is perfect, Colonial Froge comes close. It offers numerous AP and DE courses and a lot of extracuricular activies for students. The Governor's school program that is shared betweeen Stafford and Spotsylvannia county is not as great an asset to the school as it could be. It is a drain on resources that only services a select few. It also seems to have a very high drop out rate--it is so hard that it penalizes the very students it is intended to help.

When we moved to the area my son was reluctant to accept this school. He promised to give me one year and after that he was sold. He withdrew from the Governors School, found it too confining, but held with the AP courses, and graduated with honors recieving a $50,000 scholarship to an out of state academy. He feels his prepraration at Colonial Forge was well rounded and has prepared him for the rigor of the academy requirements. He is encouraging his younger brother to stick with the Colonial Forge Alma Mata and feels it will best prepare him for the competitive future and he and his brother desire in business and academics. When he returns from college he always spends a day visiting and thanking his prior teachers.

Forge is a great school. The teachers here care about their students and their neeeds. I had to move out of the state before graduation, but I found I was ahead in studies compared to where I am now. The student body, though it's diverse, is very welcoming. The band program is probably the best I've ever been in. (Mr. Loft is quite the character. He's really cool though and knows what he's talking about) But overall, Forge is a great school full of good teachers and students.

As a military family moving to Stafford County I was disappointed with the way my son's transcript was read. He was an IB student in Florida where he took honor and advanced classes. These classes were weighted but when we enrolled at Colonial Forge the weighted classes were not recognized as such because Stafford county did not have or offer an equivalent class. Because of this policy his GPA went from 3.45 to 2.66. Lets just say I was not happy. The school has an excellent drama and band program. We have been satisfied with the teaching staff.
