Nothing has changed at centerville, the principal isn't involved with the students. There is little diversity in the school's staff and teachers. After reviewing the school's test scores Minority students have the lowest success in all subjects and SOL scores. This is mainly because of the leadership at the school and some of the teachers who profile the students. This school needs a new principle fast.
We are a military family who has returned to the area and Centerville Elementary. The teachers are wonderful!! I was so happy to bring my children back. There has been a change in the administration since we were here last and that is a big disappointment. At one time this school had an over abundance of volunteers but struggles now. They may even dissolve the PTA. That is do mostly to the current principal and he own lack of interest in the school. She is not there most of the time. The school and teachers are an A+ but the principal is an E. Luckily the teachers have held up the previous principals standard. It will be nice when someone who can do something about it finally notices and a more involved principal replaces the current one.
I have been a volunteer at Centerville for 13 years. The teachers are professional and care for the well being of their students. I have been associated with 5 principals at this school and have nothing but rave reviews about all but one. Unfortunately, that one is there now. I have never seen a a principal who misses so many days at the ofiice as this one. Someone needs to look into this. I rate the teachers a 5+. I rate the principal a 1.
I have two children that attended Centerville for three years and I can't say enough good things about the school. I first have to thank the office staff as well as Mrs. Bare for being so warm and friendly and always so helpful. I also would like to thank the nurse Mrs. Miller for being so great with my kids and any medical issues they had. Mr. Scales, you really are an inspirational teacher and will be missed greatly. I wish art was something the children could of had five days a week. And for all the other teachers who did such a wonderful job with the kids, Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Crichton, both Mrs. Hobbs, Mrs. Green, Mrs. Fish, and Mrs. McConnell.....thank you for everything. We will miss you Centerville and hope that we are fortunate enough to have as good of an experience at the new school.
Centerville Elementary is the best!!!! The teachers are so supportive, of the students and parents, plenty of warm and fussy feelings. The assistand principal is alwasys available too. Heis never far and always willing to iisten and help. It is great to know our children are getting the best education and love too!! Thanks to the entire staff for all you do in making learning so fun and special..
Centerville teacher work with the parnets with any concern you may have. They are always willing to set time aside to listen to your concerns and address them. My daughter switched from a private schoolto a public school this year and she struggled with the transation at first but her teacher worked with her and now she is making honor roll. Thank you Centerville.
I just found this site and also feel the principal change at this school will make this school worse not better. I've noticed teachers acting differently and the new pricipal does not take as personal an interest in each child.
One of my children just 'graduated' from the 5th grade and I was very pleased with her education. However, I know it was because she is a gifted child that she had the best teachers and great support from the Gifted Resource Teacher. Unfortunately I have another child that attends this same school and I have not received the same 'attention to detail' with this child. I believe this is partly to do with the changing of principals. Last year in January the principal that had been there for years received a 'promotion' of sorts and they brought in a new one. This new principal does not project a true interest in the children. I have yet to find any parent that is pleased with the new administration. The test scores will always be good when you teach to the test.
We are a military family that has been to a lot of schools, and I have to say this is a great school. I really feel that my son is getting an excellent education, and I feel no matter where we will move next I know that he has gained a solid foundation from the wonderful teachers he has had from this school.
#1 in Virginia Beach on many SOLs. Every day P.E. with 5 instructors; includes run club, gymnastics, soccer, basketball. Music program includes singing in foreign languages, violin, guitar lessons. PTA sponsors after school enrichment in Spring; my child took Spanish and Ballet. Strong emphasis on safety of students. ID check before picking up students. Mrs. Miller, the school nurse is very experienced, receptive to parents and a strong advocate for your child. She explained my child's medical condition to teachers, and made appropriate accommodations through administration. Excellent discipline program geared toward child's development. My child gained or lost 'bears' depending on behavior. Phonics program, reading incentive parties, reading club for parent& child to discuss a select book with group. Twice a year field trips to Marine Science Museum, Colonial Williamsburg, Living Museum. Computer skills such as internet research taught from Kindergarten on. Excellent busing. Most have about a 10 minute ride!
