This is our 3rd year at OLES and I can definitely say that with our new principal, OLES is 10 times better that the last 2 years. I can only imagine it going up from here. Teachers are caring, staff is going the extra mile and I am pleased with the effort, it is certainly paying off.
Prior to my submission I read over the reviews of others. I was quite suprised to see a few bad reviews, but of course those were outdated and posted prior to my children attending OLES. I have two children who attend this school currently. We have been located here for 2 years since my oldest was in 2nd grade. I can only convey to you my experiences, but overall they have been great. In 2nd grade there were isolated problems only pertaining to the teacher resulting in children being placed in other classrooms and 2 parents withdrawling their children from the school. That teacher is no longer there. I assume she finally retired. The PTA was great, great programs, and great principal. During 3rd grade the teachers were fabulous! I couldn't sing their praises enough. The same thing with 4th grade, I couldn't sing their praises enough. With my second child they had a great teacher in Kindergarten and this year in 1st grade as well.
I have two children who have attended OLES and I cannot imagine them going to school anywhere else. The teaching staff and administrative staff have been very caring and pass on postive instruction. Both of my children LOVE school and it's all because of OLES. They have not only gained a high quality education, but they have learned leadershiop skills, social skills, and good discipline. Technology plays a wondeful part in their education here!!! It's a safe place to spend their days, which is very important to me, as a parent. Security is paramount! My children have been well prepared for middle school and being model citizens. We have always felt like family here and love our school. Waveriders Rock!
My daughter attended this school and I must say that I am very displeased. The my daughter was in the third grade. During our short time there, her teacher stated that she might be ADHD, she was non-cooperative in school, and various of other things. They had me so dumb-founded that I took my daughter to her pediatrician to be checked. The pediatrician disagreed with the teachers. I quickly dis-enrolled my daughter from Ocean Lakes and enrolled her into another elementary school. By doing that, it was a world of difference. My daughter grades went up. She continued on the the fourth grade and made honor roll throughout the entire school year. She is going to the fifth grade with flying colors. It appears that the teacher did not have patience and/or lacked teaching skills. The worst part of this story is that the principal and guidance stood behind this teacher.
I too havea child at this school and am in total agreement with the parents that are saying the staff is quite rude. My child has been bullied over and over and the administration staff seems not to care. bullying is a big issue here but then gain the kids see the staff actingv like bullies so what do you expect? I would love to have my child at a different school but with the new school change I am unable to transfer her out. I must say alot of the teachers are caring and do try thier best, I am a very involved parent, and see that the teachers are unable to do alot doue to school policies.
My daughter and I love OLES! She is in 1st grade and her teacher is wonderful. They have great programs and I've never had a problem with the staff. The only problem I have with this school is that the kids only get a very rushed, 10 minutes to eat breakfast in the morning. It takes my daughter a little longer than that to finish a meal!
Parental involvement always needs to be the #1 key factor to your childs success at any activity they do. I do however disagree with the parents saying the 'security lady' is too harsh. My two children starting this year 1st and 2nd grades love her to pieces! She has a very important job of keeping all our childrens safe around the buses and around the school grounds. She needs to be sure that the children understand the importance of safety! I appreciate her sternness! My youngest child has a high functioning form of autism. Our school has offered many recources for us. Options I didn't know existed! My daughter has an anxiety issue, she is made to feel more than welcomed to the guidence office for comfort! Let yourself be known around the school and be known! Make friends with the staff, they are there for your kids!
I agree with the parent that said parental involvement will be the key to success at OLES, but I believe that to be the case with most all educational choices. I have two children currently attending and I feel the quality of the teachers is excellent. My boys are doing well and look forward to attending. I also agree with the parent who said that some of the staff is a bit harsh in how they deal with children. They are not 'mean', but they are a bit more stern than I would like to see (especially with the youngest kids who are just learning the ropes).
My 2 daughters (kindergarten and 4th grade) attended Ocean Lakes Elem. for 1 year. Kindergarten was fine but my 4th grader went from A's and B's in her other school to C's and D's at OLES. The staff was very rude and my children hated going to school.
This school leaves much to be desired. My 2 children attended for about 6 months (grades K and 3rd). Both of their teachers were wonderful caring and great at teaching the kids. Unfortunately the rest of the staff were not as great. The kids can't walk down the hall without being yelled at. They are greeting in the morning with a 'hurry up and get to class' (yelled very loudly) and they are yelled at all day long in the cafeteria, halls, library etc.! I was just amazed at how many of the adults at this school behaved this way. The security lady made my kindergarten daughter cry twice in a matter of 2 months. The office staff was hit or miss with some being so nice and others making you feel very unwelcome.
