In the Virginia Beach City School District (VBCSD) you have the option to attend the school in your attendance zone (based on where you live) or, under limited circumstances (for example: parent employment at the school, child care, the student has been the victim of a serious crime at his neighborhood school) you can apply to attend another school in the district.
Under the federal No Child Left Behind law, students attending a Title I school designated as "in need of improvement" have the right to attend a higher-performing school in the district.In Virginia children can attend charter schools, and low-income students are eligible for scholarship funding to attend private schools.
