I plan to move to the Virginia Beach area in late July and need to know what are the best middle schools. I am looking for a great academic program, diversity and extracurricular activities. Thank you.77729
Virginia Beach is all one school district, and as a whole has top ratings state wide. Look at the Great School ratings and read the comments. They are pretty much on target. As far as the High Schools are concerned, if your child is interested in or qualifies for any of the academies, you probably won't be in district anyway. My daughter is in Salem, which has a few negative comments here. She is in the academy and is doing quite well. A few teacher issues (but there are always a few bad ones, no matter where you go), and guidance office has not been helpful or responsive. Probably would get more response if I made more noise, though. Overall, she is happy, makes good grades and is very involved in the school. Her SOL scores are always in the pass advanced catergory so the school is doing its job as far as academics are concerned. She absolutely loves the academy and the academy teachers, so if you have a child who is gifted in any of the arts, this is where you want them to be.77403
I am getting moved there also and am in shock at how big the schools are.(Every school he has attended was 500 or less) My son is going into 6th grade, any suggestions for me also?69879
I have to disagree with Ttejay. I don't think that Cox and Kellam are at the top of the list. The Elem and Middle schools are not that good either. But its just what I think.
I know that Centerville elem is a great school they go to Brandon Middle (not that great) and Tallwood high (good) Tallwood elem haven't passed their sol tests 2 years in a row and that is what brings down Brandon Middle.
Kempsvill schools are great. Salem - I wouldn't put my kids there or at Greenrun. 59958

our daughter is looking into the same thing. she would like a community based school that has top rankings. And also a respectable apartment complex nearby.19915
