I have two children who currently attend Tidewater Academy. We love the school. It is a safe, nurturing, caring, and academically thriving educational environment. ---I have to say that I completely disagree with the individual who wrote the July 6 review. A school can try to help the child to the best of its ability, but it is ultimately the responsibility of the parent to correct behavior.

I have to say that I am very disappointed with the treatment of my son at Tidewater Academy. Some very picky things were held against him and it was like they just gave up and blamed him as a behavior problem. He never hurt anyone or caused any school damaged but you would have thought he was the worst child at the school. It's sad when they lose sight and want to blame the child instead of helping. Children are not the same as it was in the 70's & 80's and we have to learn how to adapt to that and help them. They pride themselves and the best and I truly feel the school is not good enough to use that statement. If you are not in the right tax bracket your child will suffer.

Tidewater Academy has been a nurturing environment for my children. My oldest daughter would have never graduated had we not moved her to Tidewater. She embraced by the staff where she felt loved and cared for. My daughter the D/C student graduated on the A/B Honor Roll. I huge accomplishment for her. My middle daughter has been challenged by the curriculum as well encouraged to be a good citizen. She has been given academic challenges that have already been proven by her recent stellar SAT scores as a Sophomore. She has been encouraged and challenged by other peers, not only academically, but in sports too. Moving my children to this school was one of the best decisions I have made.

Tidewater Academy is a school that we are fortunate to have in our community. It provides a safe environment for its students, one in which they do not have to worry about theft, drugs, or violence. This allows them to go to school and focus on what is important - learning! On another note, Tidewater can provide its students with the one-on-one attention that they deserve, due to the commitment of the faculty and the outstanding student-teacher ratio. And when it comes to extra-curricular activities, no child is left behind. Everyone can play the sports they desire or participate in the clubs/organizations that they so wish. That is the great thing about Tidewater -the opportunities are available for all students! As a former student and faculty member, I have seen all of these wonderful qualities first-hand and feel fortunate to know that Tidewater Academy is available for my child's future education!

Tidewater Academy is a dynamic school...always moving, striving, towards academic excellence. We've seen many improvements each year as our child has reached high school. The new physical appearance of the school is an inspiration. It astounds us that, Tidewater, being located in a very rural area, is able to consistently raise the money to add new programs, facilities, and hire quality teachers. I think this makes a strong statement regarding the commitment of the faculty, staff, parents, & community! A number of teachers have been with Tidewater for over 25 years! TA has extremely strong leadership in their headmaster, Mr.Taylor! With that kind of commitment, you know they have something great going on. For us, personally, safety was a huge concern. We've felt very comfortable in this area as the school has had very few incidents of drugs/violence over the years. In other area schools, this is a daily occurrence.
