This is a great school. My son does academically really well but has some neurological issues, and the school has done wonderfully addressing the issues. The teachers, principal, vice principal, counselors, social workers, etc. have always been on my son's side. They truly found what was best for him. This is a great school no matter what kind of learner you are or what issues your child has.
Stonehouse is a wonderful place in which to grow-up. My fourth grader has been a student here since kindergarten and has tested well in both reading and math. The teachers work as a team to ensure every child at that grade level is challenged academically and artistically. In the younger grades, part of the nightly homework is to have a parent sign-off when it is completed. Now that my child is older, it is second nature to show me what they are studying and when they will be tested on it. Stonehouse teachers focus on HOW to be a good student; the kids are taught test taking strategies, how to plan and manage large projects, and are taught good study habits. Stonehouse is an excellent school and I would (and have) recommend it to any parent.
I am finding that instead of the teachers finding ways to help your child to improve they expect you as a parent to do teh work for them.
Stonehouse Elementary is not so good for special education. If your child is average to above average academically and does not have any behavioral issues, then this school is a wonderful place for your child's education and well-being. However, if your child has learning problems or needs behavioral supports and services, then this school is not the place for them! The staff and much of the faculty do not seem to understand nor know how to work with children in these later categories. Our child was often misunderstood and, as a result, inappropriate interventions and methods were used which sometimes made matters worse. The school was quick to pull my child from general ed and tried to re-locate my child to an inappropriate placement in another school. Stonehouse needs more training in dealing with and helping special needs children with behavioral concerns and emotional and/or social skill deficits/weaknesses.
Storehouse Elementary exceeded my expectations. I have two children who attend this school and they have shown increasing levels of knowledge as it pertains to the subject matter taught. The teachers seem to care in pursing academic excellence and the parents are active in their children s educational pursuits. My children actually enjoy attending class and the tight knit school community plays a part in their enthusiasm.
We moved here from Tennessee and were hesitant about the public schools here. My daughter is in second grade and learning so much. Great school, great environment and great staff. I am very pleased. No need to do a private school with such a great public school.
I am absolutely in love with Stonehouse. I have a second grader who has been in attendance there since kindergarten. The Teachers and supporting staff are totally dedicated to ensuring the success of each and every child. Making sure that each learning experince is memorable and enjoyable, pushing (never pressuring) each child to reach academic excellence. Mrs. Beckhouse, the principal, takes the time to know each child individually. If you are looking to enroll your student,I highly recommend these awesome teachers- Mrs.Bonner(kindergaten), Mrs.Gaten (1st grade)& Ms. Matthews (2nd grade).
Please add Mrs. Hagee to the list of outstanding teachers at Stonehouse Elementary. I have a 1st grader in her class and have two older children (middle and high school). This year has far exceeded the 'best years' of my older children's education. The auxillary personnel at this school are amazing. Success begins with excellent leardership, Ms. Beckhouse (principle) gives her staff, students and parents the leadership that it takes to make a school successful! Anyone deciding to enter the field of education today should be commended, for they do so in the face of adversity. The separation of church and state, the lack of respect for adult authority, loving parents becoming too involved; these adversities hinder the ability of our young people to learn that accomplishment comes with honest hardwork and accountability. Stonehouse works hard to teach this lesson to their students everday.
Stonehouse is an amazing school. The principal, Liz Beckhouse, knows every child by name. I have four children in this school and have yet to find a teacher who was not caring and excellent. Teachers who deserve extra recognition: Miss Viskochil, Ms. Kemp, Mrs. D. Jones, Mrs. Hundley, Mrs. Johnson and Ms. Chisholm (preschool).
