The parent involvement at this school is why this school stands out as number one in our community. It is easy to see that the parents of Matoaka students care about their child's education and that is why the test scores are so high and the kids achieve academically. The administration is excellent as well. Not all schools in the district are so lucky to have such fine teachers and staff as we do at Matoaka.
After serving 31 years in education as teachers and school administrators, my husband and I recently visited Matoaka Elementary School with our grandson, who is in the first grade. Each visit left us with an everlasting and uplifting experience about education at its very best! Matoaka has dedicated and highly qualifited teachers and staff who maintain a sincere concern in all areas of child development. Equally important to academic success is citizenship, personal responsibility, parental involvement, the promotion of art, theater, music and sports. Everything about Matoaka Elementary School is great, a beautiful and functional campus with a highly visable, approachable and involved principal who is obviously respected and admired as the motivating factor in its success. Congratulations Matoaka Staff, Students and Parents!
This is a FANTASTIC school!! We actually moved to Williamsburg just so we could enroll our children at Matoaka which turned out to be -by far- the absolute best decision we could've made. You will not find a better environment for your child. Fabulous teachers, involved parents, great kids, attentive staff and an amazing principle. The school itself is beautiful which makes the children happy and excited to be there. There are a variety of clubs, music and orchestra programs, drama productions and more for the children to get involved with. The children are gently guided to subject mastery and have tons of fun along the way. We are so proud to at Matoaka!
I love the atmosphere of teaching at Matoaka-it REALLY is all about the kids. Matoaka administration and parents are ardent supporters of the arts which is such a rare thing in these days of NCLB. I can't say enough good things about our principal and assistant principal who have great rapport with both students, parents and teachers. You aren't afraid to voice your opinion because you won't be punished for it-it may not go your way, but you will be heard. Can't imagine a better place to work!!
I wouldn't take my son out of Matoaka if someone offered to send him to private school for free! This is a great school with great, caring teachers who work as a teaching team. Even the principle spends most of his time in the classroms or the hallways and not in his office. Excellent!
Yes this is a very good school. My son is in K this year. His teacher (Mrs Hughson) is outstanding. She keep track of what/how he is doing and her analysis on the report cards are exactly what my son can/can't do well. The other kids in his class are pretty good too. It is a brand new school and has a lot of space!
Great School. Brand new with unbelievable amenities, especially for an elementary school. All the neigborhood kids and parents seem to love this school. Word on the street is that teachers from other area schools are competing to transfer to Matoaka.
