L.F. Addington offers a full year of all the core subjects: Math, Science, History, and English. Health and Fitness is also an all-year class, with 6 weeks of all other 'resource' classes: Art, Library, etc. Recently started was instead of the 6 week classes, 7th graders can opt into all year choir, or band from 6-8th grade. The teachers learn names very quickly, and the principal knows all student's names within about 2 days. The teacher's are far from rude, but strict about learning. They allow joking at appropriate times, and do not require many supplies. The 7th grade pre-algebra class is large, 24 students, so obviously the teaching must be pretty good. I'm in 7th grade at L.F. Addington, and I absolutely love the school.

Every student at LF Addington receives a full year of Language Arts (every year). My children have enjoyed their experiences at LFA, and for a little town in the Appalachian mountains, I believe that LFA has done the best with the funds allotted to them. There are some hard working teachers who go beyond the daily 8:00 to 3:45 grind (with a smile I might add) and principals who know the names of every child walking their hallways. If you are interested in test scores, LFA has some of the highest in the county, and believe it or not, the state. If your child is not succeeding at LFA then you have either not been communicating with the school or you just don't grasp the importance of your influence on your child's success. If you care about your child's educational future, unplug the xbox and read with them.

I find this review far over the edge! The staff is far from rude. English is taught year round and is considered a very important part of learing to the schools staff. If you want your kids to go to a school were each students is recoginzed by name by each memeber of staff and the needs of the students are there top priority!

To say L.F. Addington contends with the contry's best would not be fair. But other reviews published here have also been far too critical. Not all (or even most) of the staff is rude, and English is taught one semester (eighteen weeks) just like any other subject, and taught well. Art is only taught six weeks per grade. The band program is excellent. If anyone, hypothetically speaking, sent their child to this school, and their B average was lowered to a C average, it is quite possible it isn't the school's fault. Really, I'm only a year out of the place, so I'd know the inner-workings best, right? My opinion is that while LFA hardly shines as a mansion of eager learning and mass contemlating, it really isn't a sort of place where they tie students up and laugh maniacally as said students fail test after test. El Fin.

I cannot believe my 8th grader will have only 1 semester of english. No litature, no reading & writing, nothing in the way of english in the second semester. I think that is a core subject and should be taught throughout the school years. If anything to work on spelling. We all need that. That is exceptable there because proper english is not needed if you stay there. But he will have art all year.

My children went to this school for a year and it was the worst school year they ever had. The teachers are rude and my children's B average in all classes dropped down to a C in most. This is one of the worst schools in the state of Virginia.
