Let me first say that if my daughter didn't have the teacher she does this rating would be a 1. The communication with her teacher is great. The communication with the school in general is terrible. For example I have now signed up for the PTA 4x and paid my $5 fee and have not once received an email or letter from school even noting my interest. No further information has been provided by the school on meetings or any other involvement. The requested parent volunteers for the book fair and I signed up and was never contacted. After attending the book fair I don't think any parents were involved as it was all staff. If you are going to ask for help and you have parents willing to assist then please contact us. That being said my daughter has grown in her abilities. I credit that to her teacher as the overall testing scores are poor even for VA and that says a lot since VA schools Nationwide are poorly rated. There is a truth to what is said that those schools that are in a low income area are not good schools. It's sad and shouldn't be true but it is very obvious here at this school. We feel that the education standard is to low and will be moving to a better location.
I have two students who attend EVS. I have one teacher who responds to my inquires and one teacher who doesn't respond as readily as I'd prefer. The principal is new. I have a some issues w/new procedures she has put into place; however, I understand what she is trying to accomplish. My largest complaint is lack of communication. If the lines of communication were more open, I believe the school would really thrive.
i would recommend this school to everyone. i have one child here and she is doing very good here. if she is having any problems in any area, the teachers and the the principal lets me know, together we find a resolution. they are the best staff i have ever worked with. i have two other girls who went to this school, and they both are a and b students. thanks to all of you at this school.
I have two children who go to Vaughan and my older daughter went there as well. I love this school so much, they have such amazing teachers and staff! I wish more schools were like this. They take time to talk to me about any concerns I have and are excellent with my children!
My child previously attended CCA and left with a reading problem. After having been at EV he is now reading on grade level and working hard to rise above grade level !! THIS SUCCESS is a direct result of the fantastic staff, curriculum, and special attention provided to him !!! HIs reading success is a testament to THEIR successful programs!!! THANK YOU !!!
Elizabeth Vaughn has a great program and great faculty and staff keep up the good work.
I think this a wonderful place to learn i would have gone to this school if i could. My child comes home saying i love this school sooooo much if we mo0ve i wouldnt control myself thanks elizabeth vaughan
I will agree with a post I read; some of the teachers are extremely dedicated and caring.... However, MANY of them are just outright hateful and mean to these children. I have walked down my child's hallway several times and heard teachers practically screaming at these kids. And the principal, that's another joke. Don't even waste your time trying to talk to her about anything, she has a nasty attitude as well. Just go directly to the superintendent with any issues because otherwise they will NOT get resolved (and may not even then). Do NOT send your kids here, bottom line... unless you want their self-esteem ruined and their hearts stomped on.
Outstanding and dedicated staff memebers. They truly went above and beyond for my child. Never has he even liked school before, now he loves it. He's joined a male mentoring group and thinks the world of it. So a big 'shout out' goes to the 5th Grade Team at EVS. You all are the best.
Alot of teachers at this school are good with the children and seem to really care about them. However, you have some who seemingly know only how to yell and be rude to parents. Principal never returns phone calls and/or fixes issues, even when she vows to and a lot of the children are ill-behaved (which I realize is not the school's fault). there are 0 after-school activities (and seemingly very few before school activities).
This school needs a lot of help. It has a large staff/teacher turn over. There is no parent involvement which means they pull teeth to put together some what of a PTO/PTA. The principal has been there for years and has not been able to pull the school toghether. Something has to be done, but I would not recommend this school to anyone.
Great principal and staff, they care about the children. I must say thought they are way behind in resources.
Though I was not the most involved parent in the 2004-2005 school year, I must contradict the last comment made. Every form and flyer ever sent home with my child and the children in our neighborhood had spanish translation on the back side every time whether it was needed or not. Also, every meeting I attended adorned the presence of at least one principal, if not both. And as far as other parents' involvement, the school threw a rather large 'thank you' party for all of the parent volunteers. If I didn't have a heart for this school before, just this act of appreciation and togetherness totally won me over! Any issue ever brought up by myself and ajoining neighbors had full attention of the admin. and results were always evident. Considering the many many many schools we have encountered, I can honestly say that this one gets two thumbs WAY up!
My child started EVS at grade fouth and we had an excellent experience. EVS is an excellent school, where they believe all children can learn.
My child attended only K at EVS before we pulled him out. I want to note the K teacher and aid were both very nice and struggled to involve parents in their classroom. However, I was an active member of the PTA and was very unhappy with both teacher and parent involvement in the school community. The PTA board was unable to fill its positions and the teacher rep, the principal and/or the vp rarely attented meetings. The school was not accommodating of the large Hispanic community and did not translate flyers or notes home into Spanish. The students at the school are warm and welcoming and deserve better administration.
