Overcrowded, old teachers, old facilities, poor leadership, and more importantly a poor learning environment. Firstly, I would like to know how this school receives 5 star reviews? What is it being compared to? Out of the four schools our children this school has been the worst. There are only a handful of teachers that actually care, the classes are dark and over crowded, and the curriculum is basic and outdated. More importantly the the leadership at the school is not strong, and more importantly not involved to the extent they should be. The facilities are outdated, and the overall learning standard is very minimal. This school could improve by removing 'tenured' faculty, make teaching a priority, and work with the school board to facilitate additional facilities for the students. The school is more concerned with its 'diversity' ration rather than the quality of the education and the experience it provides its students. If you have not been anywhere else perhaps one could understand the perception that this school is great, but it is not. There are only a handful of teachers at springwoods that are up to par, hopefully if you attend, you will luck out and get one.
A huge disappointment, having heard so much about the schools in northern virginia, Springwoods has been a complete let down! Here is what you should know, 1) The school is overcrowded (27+ kids per class) 2) The learning environment is poor 3) The majority of teachers are of a poor caliber, dont care, to old 4) The school leadership is weak and manipulated by the tenured staff 5) extremely bureaucratic. Other local schools that rank as highly have fewer students, newer facilities, and a more educated and engaged staff. The school could be improved by.....being held accountable for the quality of its work, advocating for more staff and facilities with the school board. Reviewing its teachers and replacing those tthat have clearly lost their interest in their work. Schools are about education, but they are also about the experience they provide our children. Springwoods basically drains the desire to learn from its kids, pull up to pick your kids up, and you never see happy faces, just children who clearly feel like they just wasted 8 hours of their day. Not a good introduction to learning.
I bought my house based on the school my kids would attend. I did much research in the area and Springwoods continued to come through as a top rated school. My kids are now into their 3rd year at Springwoods and I have absolutely nothing ill to say of the facility or the education my boys are receiving. The bus transportation is punctual, the office staff is friendly and helpful. The new principal is very hands on and has small kids of her own. She is understanding and gets the job done. She is such a nice and compassionate person. The teachers are so nice and love kids. I like that I am welcomed at the school by name more often than not and asked to help out and me involved in my boys education. If you are considering Springwoods, don't hesitate. You'll be glad you enrolled your kids.
We are thrilled with Springwoods so far. I admit I am a tough consumer to please, and typically have a complaint. I don't have any complaints. Our first experience with school has been wonderful thanks to SW ES and their staff! My daughter's teacher is fantastic! We moved our entire life around (including the sale of our home) so our children could go to SW ES. The school is organized, positive, nurturing, and welcoming. The principal left just a few weeks back and that had me worried, to date everything has remained the same, and I am so thankful. If you have a choice in where your child can go to elementary school, in my opinion you can't go wrong with SW ES.
I consider this school to be only slightly above average. It is by no means outstanding. We moved here last summer and were extremely disappointed with the 5th grade curriculum. The reason this school is able to keep its school of excellence status is because they blatantly teach to the sol test. Both of my children spent their entire last 9 weeks studying for their standardized tests. If you are coming from a below average school, you might be pleased with this school. However, if you you are used to an above average school you will be disappointed.
This school is fantastic! My son was a third grader there, and had some very serious learning problems. He needed to be moved to another school because of this, and in the many meetings we had about him, the staff had only his very best interests at heart. His teacher, Miss Doyle was just great with him, and in the end we were sad to go, but they were just meticulous with his testing, and the school psychologist Mrs. Ross really knows her stuff! It was hard for us to hear what she and the other staff shared, but it was all true and well researched. I am an AP at another school, and know a good staff when I see one, and only wish my staff was this good - very professional and knowledgeable. My son is now at another school that specializes in his type of learning problems, but had it not been for the Springwoods special education staff, we might not have ever known! The Principal should be commended for such an excellent staff that she has put together.
We are a military family and have been very happy with this school. The Principal, Mrs. Ripperger, is excellent, caring, very involved and supportive of both kids and parents. I have witnessed her actively recruiting excellent teachers she interacts with, so I know she has been involved in attempting to hire teachers who are compassionate, organized and motivated. The parents & PTO are phenomenal too. My 2 kids have received only the very best in the way of teachers - professional, patient, caring - the kind of teachers who just love and want the very best for kids. They haven't been the type who challenge children far beyond ability, which we appreciated- we've been to those schools & basically, the parents end up doing all the work that is too hard for the kids & the kids end up stressed out. These teachers know it is important to let the kids be kids & there is learning value in that. Like all the schools I've been to, if your child has borderline learning disabilities, they care, but they are underfunded & can't even really give advice lest they then be liable to provide assistance. I wish parents could opt to subsidize the program to obtain some help in these cases.
My Child has really blossomed here. She came from Christ Chapel hating to read and despised homework, now she loves both! Her teacher is awesome and I couldn't be happier.
We are a military family and have experienced several different elementary schools (I have a kindergartener and 5th grader). My husband and I place a high priority on education and want our children to attend excellent schools. Springwoods Elementary is fantastic and by far the best school we have ever seen. The staff is incredible and the teachers are top notch. This school has received many acedemic honors and I am confident that my children are getting a quality education. I volunteer in the school and get to see first hand how the staff, teachers, and students interact. Students are encouraged and learn in a stress free and enjoyable environment. You will not be disappointed with Springwoods!
Wonderful teachers, awesome PTO, great staff who all care tremendously about our kids and their success!
We have the best kids, the best parents, and the best teachers :) We are the best!
My Dughter has been going to springwoods for 6 years and she loves it.All of the tachers there are very nice.
Springwoods Elementary is a great school for my daughter. She has learned so much and the teachers have helped her with writing & reading. It is a really great school!
Our school has the best teachers and students. It always looks well maintained and my son comes home happy everyday.
I love how the school is convient because we live right in front of it. We also love the teachers.
We love Springwoods because of the morals and the values that the staff continuously instills in the kids.
The thoughtful caring adminstrators especially Mrs katherine Foster.
