As a new military family in the area, this was our first year at Aquinas and we couldn't be happier with our decision. Our Kindergartener and 2nd grader thrived in this environment and were welcomed with open arms. Their teachers were fabulous, and the kids really enjoyed "specials" like computer lab, music, art and Spanish. There were many parent opportunities to volunteer and become involved. I highly recommend being proactive about asking questions and reaching out to "veteran" parents who have been here for multiple years. What a great resource! We're looking forward to many more years here at Aquinas!
For the past six years, our family has been a part of the AQUINAS community. Any child's school experience is what you make of it, i.e. if you get involved, focus on academics as a family, maintain an outlook of partnership with the teacher, as family, with your children, it will be a positive and wonderful educational experience. The problem is that sometimes there are other students or other factors that impact your child's experience, and it's in those moments where a school can shine or not. For us as a family, in those times where things have gone wrong, the guidance, administration and teachers at AQUINAS have showed us that through prayer and dedication, anything can be persevered. So, you see, in 6 years, it has not been perfect every step of the way. Yet, I am certain my children are so much better off for all they have learned at AQUINAS. There really has not been a moment where we felt the school has ever strayed from their mission of developing the whole person for all of my children: spiritual, academic, emotional.
Bravo to our Principal and her Team of Administrators and Educators. STARS has a new shine to it this year and I am very proud of the Leadership and their actions to address all the concerns of the parents. Their hard efforts since the end of the 2011 school year is a resounding success. Parents have a role as well to do the right thing: to communicate appropriately when they have a concern-the parking lot and this web site are not the place to resolve personal issues between you and a STARS member. I would suggest giving that STARS member the fair opportunity to hear your perspective on the matter rather than attack them with their boss, or anonymous mail. Imagine if there was a "rate the parents" web site-it works both ways. Obey the rules-get out of your car and get your child, pulling up to the sidewalk at extended day or texting your child on your updated spot in the parking lot is poor safety. Finally, getting involved as a volunteer shows us first hand how hard the STARS Team is working for your child and my kids love seeing me. The most important point-the continued happy growth in faith and intellect in my children. Way to Go STARS!!!
My child just finished up kindergarten at Aquinas. I have been nothing but pleased by the teachers. They truly are the best in the diocese My son was continually challenged as the year progressed. He tells me he loves his school and the kids and teachers are very nice. This is important to me since he has been bullied by kids in summer camp held at a "christian school". My son has been in the AP's office twice and I can't say anything bad about her, she treated my son and my husband with respect and empathy My experience as well as my childs has been wonderful at Aquinas, and I would recommend the school to any family looking for a safe, academically challenging school.
We are a military family and have been at many different schools. We enrolled our children at Aquinas last year and could not be happier. The teachers and administration are wonderful. Academically the school is very challenging but it also balances that with a large sports program and many different extra-curricular activities and clubs. We found the Admissions process to be very smooth with good information provided through the whole process. We are so blessed to have our children here.
My son is in Kindergartner at St. Thomas Aquinas Regional School in Woodbridge. His teacher and the principal of the school are truly outstanding! We feel very fortunate that our son attends this school. If you live in the Woodbridge area, I highly recommend taking a look at this school as an option for your child/children. God Bless!
I just graduated from ST. Thomas Aquinas in the yr 08-09 and I couldn't have been happier attending any other school! Having the sisters present is amazing! The education you receive is incredible and you go onto High School with no problems! The people and the the sisters make the school, including Fr. Searby of course! Mass on Wednesday's also helped me grow in my faith along with religion class everyday and the awesome opportunity to visit the adoration chapel when ever you felt neccessary. The school is one big family. I absolutly loved my experience there!!
Our two children go to this school and we are thrilled with the academic, athletic, and spiritully programs! We are zoned for Fairfax county public schools but St. Thomas Aquinas school is 5 star by far! They provide a safe, loving, open, challenging environment under the direction of the Dominican sisters. They teach to the whole child - intellecutally, spiritully, and phyiscally! The programs offered are excellent! The communication between the parents, child, teachers, and staff is outstanding the best I have ever seen. There is a genuine concern for the welfare and direction of the children. We wouldn't go anywhere else. The PTO is very active and runs smoothly with the staff of the school. It is a well balanced enivorment all around. The leadership of the school is outstanding! We are so very happy and blessed to have our children attend this school!
My three children have all attended Aquinas and we have been very blessed by the Dominican Sisters and the dedicated faculty and staff.
Our daughter is in her third year at this school and we couldn't be happier. Sending her to St. Thomas Aquinas is the best decision we could have made for her and i am excited for her to go all the way through to the 8th grade. The loving and close-knit environment has contributed to our daughter blossoming into a very secure and happy little girl. She's getting an excellent education from a staff who is more concerned with how they can help vs simply doing it for the money. The teachers truly love what they do, and it shows. Five stars in each and every way!
My three kids finished their first year at this school. I was so happy to see how my kids were able to blossom in such a challenging but nurturing environment. The principal and the teachers totally impressed me with how dedicated and 'in tune' they were with each individual kid. Also, I can't say enough about the other parents on how helpful and encouraging they were in reaching out and making our family feel included in everything. When I asked my oldest how he likes this school, he says, 'I don't like all the homework, but I like how everyone is so nice, and I like having so many friends.' I guess that sums it up for me too.
I am currently in eighth grade at this school and I love it! The teachers are very nice and the sisters are wonderful!!! Sister Maria Christi (principal) is awsome and is also very fun to be around. I can't say enough about Sister Jane Frances! Sister Mary Clare and Sister Anna Christi are very nice also! With mass once a week I would recommend this school to anyone!
I am currently a 6th grader at this school. I just love the way my teachers help me step by step get through some things I might not understand one bit. They also have something knew and fun for us every day. I love my school.
I am currently an 8th Grader here at Aquinas and I have to say that I love this school. The teachers are nice and challenging and the principal, Sr. Maria Christi, is a great school. I would recommend Aquinas School to anyone.
I now have 3 children at Aquinas and they are thriving. The school is a Community where students and parents care for each other. After a car crash, the school community brought my family meals 3 days a weeks for a month and also supplied child care and car pools -- and these weren't just the mom's of my children's friends, but the entire school helping my family in a time of need. The teachers, staff, and principal know the students by name and are very involved with their students. You could not ask to have your children in a more loving learning environment.
My son has attended Aquinas for the past seven years. Aquinas has provided a challenging curriculum with an excellent blend of spritual growth. The extra-curricula activities, especially the athletic opportunities, have helped make Aquinas a school that my son looks forward to attend on a daily basis.
I am currently an 8th grader at Aquinas and I love it! The teachers are great and the atmosphere is awesome! If you're new, they just welcome you with open arms. Sr. Dominic Mary, the principal, is the greatest! I wouldn't want to go anywhere else.
I have a student currently attending Aquinas, and I also have a former Aquinas student, during all this years I have been very happy with the kind, and quality education that my kids have received, including the moral values, that they are given at home are continue at school. As a parent of many years in Aquinas I feel very proud of all the students, present and former.
