As the parent of a special needs child I value a school which is open to parent input, participation and collaboration. In order for a special needs child to make progress you need all the adults in his/her life to be on the same page and collaborating, especially if the child is not able to report back about their school day to the parent. The Coventry principal and assistant principal was not open to our family. I got the impression special needs children were not valued in Coventry. They were merely tolerated. There are other York County schools that are more collaborative so I would suggest to do your research before settling on Coventry. This school year there is a new principal so things may possibly change however the assistant principal is still there and usually the person in charge of special needs students cases . I have to add that most of the teachers I know in Coventry are awesome and have their heart in the right place but if you have leadership who are not that concerned with training and support for their teachers in teaching special needs children, it is not the best place for children with disabilities to excel.
Amazing school! Not only do parents get very involved but grandparents as well. I have volunteered before where there were more volunteers then kids in the class. The academics are amazing and I love the faculty couldn't ask for anything more in a school.
I am a long time parent with three children coming through the halls of Coventry. Though the school has changed over the years it is still an excellent school. Parent involvement has decreased in recent years as the prices of homes for this area have sky rocketed. There just aren't as many stay at home moms now to volunteer. But still parent involvement is way above many schools in neighboring cities. Academics are excellent, but with that comes a price of kids not getting enough recess time. School lunches are still behind the times with not being healthy (very processed) or home cooked at all. Other premiere school districts elsewhere in the country are now doing homecooked meals due to the obesity issues with kids now. Hopefully York County schools will catch up with that soon. But I solve that problem by having my kids take their lunch. There are teachers here that are as dedicated as a teacher can get and the office staff is awesome. I have been overall very happy with all three of my children's time at Coventry and all came out as advanced students reading way above grade level.
The BEST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL in the Langley AFB area! Never ending parent participation. Outstanding program where dads spend a day with their child and walk about the school for child safety. Great School spirit. GO COVENTRY COUGARS!
Very friendly, parents are very involved. Teachers listen and offer assistance.
I was not impressed. In fact, this school actually had a more repelling than inviting air to it.
This school is FULL of non stop parent participation and the halls are always brimming with happy excited students and often times parents as well. After hours when school is out, still lots of activity, PTA is almost at 100% membership every year and the teachers are fantastic. All caring and concientious in everything they do. The principal, Catherine Cheney is by all rights from what I can tell a firm hand get a warm smile, a nice combination for would be trouble makers (who could easily be my son) so it's nice to know that he is expected to follow the same standards at school as he must at home. We moved here for the school and we will stay for that as well. It drew us to York County and our neighborhood and I'm glad we made this great choice for our kids. Thanks to all the CES staff!
What an incredible school! The teachers, administrators, and support staff all truly care about our children and the environment they live, grow, and learn in. As a military parent I am also thrilled with the support they give our children during so many deployments and seperations. Teachers make special efforts to email and inform parents that are away as much as the parents that are here! My family is so happy with CES and the York County School System that we have decided to retire here! Thank you Mrs Cheney and CES!! Go Cougars!!
Coventry Elementary School continues to excel under the leadership of Cathy Cheney, the new principal with her new vice principal of Lisa Ruffieux. Standard test scores continue to soar and the atmosphere is relaxing to include more fun while still maintaining high standards. Parent involvement is incredible. We love this school!
Coventry Elementary is the finest school on the peninsula. As a parent you can't help but be involved ad therefore be proud at what you help your child to accomplish.
