Personally, I love Houston Elementary, my daughter is new to the school this year, and so is her teacher, that I also love.

I currently have 2 sons (8 and 6) attending. My youngest starts this year. My first impression of this school was mixed. Everyone seemed friendly enough but the enviroment lacked. Each classroom has iron gates and the windows are covered as well. This was very unsettling to me because we transferred from a Virginia school and I was shocked at the difference. The first year my son was assigned to a different teacher (due to a class split) and that teacher left much to be desired. On his report card in the comments field all she did was copy almost exactly what his first teacher had reported. This year has been a better experience. Both my sons were happy with their teachers and I was impressed with the quality of schoolwork and the homework that was sent home. I believe this change was due to the age difference in the teachers. I find that the older teachers are sometimes stuck keeping the same teaching styles they used 15 or 20 years ago. I'm requesting this year that all my sons have teachers that are younger. Overall, I'm happy with the school. The principal is a no non-sense principal and I love that. The vice principal is always seen walking and montering the halls and outside areas. This school is wonderful considering where it is located and the types of students that attend. PS- Test scores at this school were quite impressive. I did not expect them to be where they were.
