We recently moved to the Hill and have 2 kids at LTES. It has been a wonderful experience. The teachers have been great, the academics are strong, and the atmosphere is nurturing. I have nothing but positive things to say about our experience here. It is what a good elementary education should be.

We have been very happy with LTES. Our son is in the PK3 program and the teachers are great. He's had a tough time adjusting and everyone is so understanding. They have brought in extra resources to help get him better acclimated. We are hopeful that the facelift the school is getting will encourage more neighborhood families to consider LTES.

I love Ludlow-Taylor. My daughter is flourishing academically and socially. The teachers and staff are phenomenal. The teachers are excellent and the principal cares about her school and students. We have a fantastic school community.

Last Friday I attended a recital at the school in support of a freinds daughter. I was so glad I went. It was great. The teachers all did a wonderful job with the kids activities throughout the evening. The gave each other attention and respect the entire evening. The parents enjoyed it very much. I will come to the next meeting to see where I can fit in. I did tell Mrs. Cobbs I had not small kids in the school. She has welcomed me as a community member and I liked that.

My daughter's fine and gross motor skills have truely florished in the preschool program here at Ludlow Taylor - she has integrated art and dance into all aspects of her day-to-day with us, and is more creative than ever before. My one caveat to attending here is the communication lapse that can occur between the LT administration and the parents that so strongly support the growth and development of their children and the program.

My son started at Ludlow-Taylor this year in the three-year-old program. The school has made a 180 degree turn around over the past few years due mostly to an excellent administrator and a very involved PTA. It's very exciting.

About the tests

In 2011-2012 Washington, D.C. used the District of Columbia Comprehensive Assessment System (DC-CAS) to test students in reading and math in grades 3 through 8 and 10, and science in grades 5, 8, and High School. The DC-CAS is a standards-based testing program, which means it measures specific skills defined for each grade by the District of Columbia. The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.

Rating legend
Below

Average
Above
average

Our rating (from 1 to 10) reflects a school's overall performance. The higher the rating, the more likely the school will prepare your child for the future, so choose an above-average school (8-10) if possible. For average schools (4-7), do careful research and look for evidence that the school has high-quality programs. For below-average schools (1-3), take caution; a low-performing school may not provide the instruction or environment your child needs to learn, and you may need to supplement classroom lessons at home.

Academic rating

The academic rating is made up of equally-weighted parts: students' test scores, their academic growth and their readiness for college (for high schools). If a school is designated low performing (Tier 3) by the DC Public Charter School Board, the school receives a "Below average" GreatSchools Rating. The graphs below compare this school's results to other schools in the city.
