I feel confident that Two Rivers School staff is equipped with a well qualified and patient staff who has the ability to deal with students who are not always in the top five of their class. The tutoring program at two rivers has great reviews also, I'm hoping for the best from it for my son. I'm very excited to be member of the Two Rivers Charter School Family!

Two Rivers' students are on an expedition to learn about life, themselves, and the world around them. It's a school where my daughter will be challenged and have fun learning for years to come!

I agree with previous posters who wrote that the school is great in some areas, poor in others. Our child's education in the early grades was quite adequate. Expeditions integrate various subjects like math and social studies. Arts curriculum is a plus. Some of the teachers are stellar. But . . . We were unhappy with the school leadership's response to an increase in bullying and a lack of challenge that our child experienced last year. After a lot of consideration, we left the school and have had no regrets. Bottom line: I recommend Two Rivers for the early grades, and there are a few great teachers in the middle and upper grades; however, the school administration needs to take a proactive approach to addressing social and academic issues that derail many schools in the middle school years.

Great teachers (2 in each room), Great school (new buildings), Great parents (constructively involved). Teaching style adapted to students' needs and encouraging. 'Expeditions' focus on a topic for a semester and incorporate reading, writing, math, social studies, art, drama, music and field trips.

Two Rivers is an excellent school that uses expeditionary learning to give real world dimensions to classroom abstractions. The school is having good results teaching leadership and citizenship to low-income students. The diverse student group is good preparation the world these students will live in.

Two Rivers has impressed me this year by tackling issues immediately, for example, stats showed that the reason the school missed the mark by a hair on test scores was because the tutoring was offered after school and most of the kids who needed to be tutored could not get back to school at 5 or 6 pm. Two Rivers making tutoring available during the school day to address this issue. that is reacting in a timely way!

This GreatSchools Rating is based on academics, including students' test scores, academic growth and college readiness. Soon, the rating will also measure school climate, which includes safety, cleanliness, parent involvement and more.

Average
Above
average

Our rating (from 1 to 10) reflects a school's overall performance. The higher the rating, the more likely the school will prepare your child for the future, so choose an above-average school (8-10) if possible. For average schools (4-7), do careful research and look for evidence that the school has high-quality programs. For below-average schools (1-3), take caution; a low-performing school may not provide the instruction or environment your child needs to learn, and you may need to supplement classroom lessons at home.

Academic rating

The academic rating is made up of equally-weighted parts: students' test scores, their academic growth and their readiness for college (for high schools). If a school is designated low performing (Tier 3) by the DC Public Charter School Board, the school receives a "Below average" GreatSchools Rating. The graphs below compare this school's results to other schools in the city.

Starting in fall 2013, we plan to release a climate rating as part of this school's overall GreatSchools Rating. The climate rating will be based on survey data about various aspects of this school's climate, such as safety, cleanliness, expectations for students, parent involvement, and more.
