Brookland is doing an excellent job in educating and preparing their students for the future. The teachers and staff know all of the students and really show that they care. The middle school portion of the school offers honors sections in both English and Math. Students have gone on from Brookland to attend a variety of high schools, from Banneker to Wilson to McKinley Tech to Coolidge to Duke Ellington. The Brookland experience is great from Pre-School all the way up through 8th grade! We are just hoping we get the Gymnasium that was promised to us-keeping our fingers crossed!
More than just a school, Brookland is a caring community of educators. Brookland's staff is constantly striving to excellency. With Mrs. Pressley at the helm and a team of committed teachers supporting, the students have the best DCPS has to offer.
Brookland Elementary is an Excellent School! The principal, staff and teachers are wonderful, kind and caring. They treat the students as if they were their own children. The principal, Ms. Donna Pressley is outstanding in her position. My two older sons graduated from Brookland and have done very well at their next school. I still have a daughter at Brookland and she is in kindergarten class. I just want to say that Brookland has always felt like family and when you enter their walls, you feel safe and secure. Keep up the good work Brookland - this is a school that's going places!
I am impressed with Brookland for two reasons, I am a former Brookland student myself. My daughter is now a Kindergarten student who is excelling! I am proud of her accomplishments. I am pleased with her teacher. The Principal is a wonderful operator of a well oiled educational machine! Good job Brookland staff, keep up the good work. P.S. My Kindergartener daughter is now reading thanks to Brookland's dedicated teachers!
The teachers at Brookland Elementary School open their hearts to the children and want them to succeed. The school has an open door policy and encourages and welcomes all parents to be involved in their child's learning. The Principal is great! She interacts with all of the children from all grades. I have seen her come into the kindergarten classroom and assist the teachers with the children, by singing 'learning' songs with them both in English and Spanish while the teachers were having a special science competition for the kindergarten students. I can not say that I have seen this type of support, from Principals, in other schools. The children at Brookland Elementary School show great self-esteem, which is cultivated through encouragement and respect for their classmates, the teachers and the Principal. 'It takes a Village to raise a child' and you have that Village at Brookland Elementary School!
I am totally impressed with this school!! The principal is wonderful and the teachers are extremely good and caring. I am a member of the PTA and the parent involvement in the school is great as well. I would encourage anyone looking for a GREAT elementary school to come visit the Brookland Family.
I was very dissapointed with Brookland Elementary School this past school year. I was especially dissapointed with the Principal. She seemed to care more about the overall appearance of the school than the actual students attending. Although there are some note worthy teachers there, I believe they are not allowed to promote a healthy learning environment under her guidance. I noticed that most teachers appear to be discouraged thus tranfering that on to the students. In my opinion, the environment is not condusive to learning or growth for those who are important...our children.
