I think that McDermoth is a great school, and alot of parents are usually involved, most of the time. They have alot of fun activities for all ages. Field day, Field trips, camping, etc. They need to have the activities last longer than just like a month or 2. But so far McDermoth is awsome, and I recomend it to alot of parents for their kids, believe me, I went there. I'am now a 7th grader, and I know alot from my former teachers. Thank you McDermoth.

My child attended kindergarten at McDermoth and our rating is based on her experience. The class size was 27 with a teacher and assistant. The teacher had excellent class control, focused on reading, and the majority of the class achieved that goal at the end of the school year. There were monthly reading nights in partnership with local businesses. Music, art and sports were integrated into the regular class setting and recesses. At the kindergarten level the extra curricular activities were mainly family oriented activities such as carnival and bingo nights organized by the PTA, and very well attended. The PTA was quite active and played a prominent role during the school year.

I was happy with McDermoth Elementary until my daughter reached 3rd Grade. She had excellent teachers for preschool (which is no longer in the same building), Kindergarten & 1st Gr. Her 2nd Gr. teacher wasn't too bad, but she had the same teacher for 3rd & 4th. Her 3rd gr. class was 3/4 split, & 4th gr. was 4/5 split. The teacher gave 5th grade homework to 4th graders! Since the 4th graders were also doing the WASL, she was stressed out from all of the school work, not to mention the tons of homework she still had! Originally, she was supposed to have a different teacher, but two trouble-making kids were also in that same class (she'd had to deal with them in 3rd grade-one of them kept stealing her school supplies), so I had her transferred out of it. The principal is pretty good, although he seemed to be unfair at times with discipline.
