Unfortunately the Arlington School Board voted to close this outstanding little school. Now the children are bussed to a large impersonal complex in town. A loss for our community & especially for our children. But we will save money on teachers wages. We can give it to the oil companies in fuel costs. Bus drivers cost less than teachers also.
Trafton is a historic school house, which is the oldest continually operating school in the State of Washington- 122 years to date! The Historic school houses about 130 student from K-12, and inspires a close and connected community environment. The parents are very active in the school and their children's education- Because all of the teachers and students know each other, and move through the grades together, the academic experience is unmatched- and rare in public education today.
This school is amazing. Quality teachers and a wonderful country environment lend to a tighter knit comradery among pupils and a learning environment where students can focus on studies and not feelings of isolation and stressful inter-student relations that can develop at larger schools with higher student counts.
122 years and still teaching students who are our future is one of Washington States finest schools. On both the State and National Historical Register. As a second time Trafton Parent who's husband also attended this school it is a top 10 in my books. Not only is it charming but it is a smaller school and we all know in smaller schools our children get a better education. This school has proved just that! Some people move to this area just so their kids can attend Trafton. Trafton IS real education!
Fantastic environment for kids to learn within an intimate classroom setting. Parents are very active at the school and the there is a lot of pride in this unique rural school house.
Such a small traditional school allows teachers to give each student the individual attention they need. A great place to grow.
Trafton Elementary is the oldest continuously running small school in the state of Washington. The kids still go to classes in the original 1912 two story wooden historic building. It is a wonderful small school that has a real sense of community. The kids are getting a wonderful education here at Trafton.
My son was a toddler when we first moved to Arlington. Several people urged us to put our son's name on the list to attend Trafton when he got older. We knew nothing of this area or the schools but proceeded to put his name on the list (Trafton is a school of choice so all of the children that attend, have chosen to be there). My son is now in Kindergaten and I could not be any happier with the school. It is in a historic schoolhouse with the bell tower and all. The atmosphere is very personal and my child is part of a family, not a student without a name in a large over crowded school. The Principal and his children attended Trafton and there is a sincere love for this school by him as well as the community. Trafton has the feel of a private school.
Both my kids attended Trafton, my son went all the way through and my daughter started in the 2nd grade. I can't speak highly enough about the quality of education my kids received while at Trafton and the special traditions, namely The Trafton Fair in September and the Spring Field Day, will always be remembered fondly by us all! The active Parent Teacher Club supports the teachers and both curricular and extra curricular programs throughout the year (and the summer months as well!) The atmosphere is like that of a big, extended family and 'Mrs. D.', the school secretary, is like a grandmother - she takes such good care of the kids and is always there to lend an ear to the parents, as well. Trafton truly is a unique and treasured school. Arlington School District should be proud to have Trafton as part of it!
They say it takes a village to raise a child. Our Trafton kids get the whole village. I have never seen a school with more parental involvement. Our teachers go above and beyond the call of duty. I can't imagine my child having a better place to learn and grow than the opportunity that Trafton provides him with. I will be commited to supporting Trafton even when my child moves on to middle school!
