There was a mass exodus of teachers and admin this past year. And we, along with several other families in middle school, have left too. There is just too much parent gossiping, cliques and hateful exclusionary treatment of some families & their kids. Many see it, and turn their heads. Their husbands see this, and turn their heads. All this from a Christian school? Its very sad.
And bullying. Happens alot here - the principal will not step in or help families when he could. Many kids have had to leave b/c of bullying. With such small class sizes, its easy for the group to target a few unfortunate kids. The principals attitude is - you can just leave - your easily replaced. :(
Its seems the word is out that the school is no longer a good school. The school can barely fill kindergarten. And any of the 6,7 or 8th grades are filled with kids that have come in as problems from the public schools.
We personally left because the academics were so poor in 6th grade, and we heard 7th is bad, and by far 8th is the worst.
We were so lulled in to the idea of a happy Christian environment - but its not that way at all. I have personally seen admin and teachers yelling at young students til they cry. There are a few good teachers, but many more that should just leave. Oh! and when you do visit - the smiling principal - LOL! - when your in the school, don't ever expect a smile or hello again, ever!
When I explained what I saw, he was indignant. And after all the years, and volunteering done there - he said there would not be a place for my child if we ever wanted to come back. Sad. So many of us that left, are sad at how the school has dropped to the state its in.
What could be done for those still there sticking it out: Help the kids that are getting bullied, talk to your kids to help them AND if your a parent, stop the mom on mom cruelty - when you see a group of moms being cruel to another mom by excluding her or her children - do not ignore it or look the other way.
And if your there and going thru this at STL - know that public school is not the end of the world. Now being there, and my kids loving it, its a healthy, well-run environment and I have personally found the admin and teachers to be supportive and kind.
We have loved the Pk - 5th grade experience. Great, caring teachers who love the kids. We have not had a bad teacher. Although we haven't had every single one, I only hear grumbling from others about one on the primary grades.
I have had no problems with other parents. They have been kind, concerned, involved and friendly to me. I've never heard of any mom to mom bullying. Maybe that happened in the past, but right now it's not going on as far as I know and I know parents from every grade. Its a tight knit friendly group.
The not so good - the 6-8th program is sorely lacking for the same reasons another reviewer gave. It seriously needs an overhaul, but that won't happen until there's a new principal..
Go for the elementary grades, you won't regret it. Leave at 6th, unless there's a new principal or new teachers.
There will be a new PE teacher and librarian starting September 2016 and those are good changes!
No school is perfect, but St Louise is pretty wonderful from PK - 5th!
Thanks to all the parents who have to tolerate the constant requests for money from the school. Published lists of who and who does not donate, by ranking of how much. Yes, really. School: just add this to the tuition and be done with it.
This school is good at K - 4, maybe 5th, depending on the teacher you get. When you hit 6th, its time to go. Teachers in 6th, 7th and 8th are notoriously bad. This you figure out through the grapevine about 5th grade. By 6th grade, many students leave. The rest just stick it out though 8th is really bad. Some of the parents had these teachers as students themselves! The teachers are not motivated. The curriculum is old, stale, outdated. The teachers need to be turned over. Many parents have voiced this, but the principal does not believe in change, any change. His way or the highway type leader. Our great love affair with the school has dwindled year to year. For a Christian school, the mom on mom cruelty is beyond - forget bullying on the playground - its all done behind the scenes. Awful. If we could do this all over again, the Bellevue school system is really very good.
