Cedar is a parent-partnership, K-12< program providing support to families who have chosen to homeschool. The program is funded through the school district while administration is independent and on site. Cedar excels in every way. The administration is flexible and firm. The support and attention to detail is personal to both families and students. Teachers strive to provide individual attention to each student challenging goals and applauding success. The curriculum is designed for each student and family. Periodic review provides opportunities to improve student and family homeschool opportunities. Courses are an eclectic opportunity for growth and include the basic, reading/writing/arithmetic along with foreign language, music, and a variety of art.
I have had 2 children in the Cedar Program. One has finished school and is our working. The other child is still in Cedar. The program is designed to work with homeschoolers. The classes vary from core classes to knitting, spinning and stone carving. The children learn thru doing for the most part. They do alot of community service work and learn how to be a working part of the community. They learn how one person can make a huge difference. The program is taught by a wonderful blend of teachers and professionals. This provides a wonderful blend. I am thrilled with the Cedar Program and feel that it is such a perfect fit.
The concept of the Cedar program is great;to provide support, curriculum, and extra curricular courses to homeschooling families. Anyone who is an expert in their field can propose a class to Cedar and see if it is supported by the community. Based on this design, Cedar can offer a wide variety of classes that suit the needs and wants of the students. A program such as this depends on community support and would benefit from outreach programs.
Cedar Program provides opportunities for home schoolers to attend classes and socialize with other home schoolers. I did not have a child attending Cedar; rather, I was a teacher there for two years prior to relocating. I received good administrative, staff and parental support. Children were happy to be at Cedar and eager for learning opportunities (piano, art, photography, etc.)that they might not have found elsewhere. The school itself is located south of Coupeville at Camp Casey. The buildings are clean and in good repair and the view is awesome!
