My son is in Kindergarten at Cedar River, and we are very very impressed with the core values of the school. There is nothing holding these children back; they are free to excel at their own pace and are constantly provided individualized attention to make sure that they are on track and actively engaged. Most important is the attitude at the school that kids are there to learn to love learning and to become active participants in their own education instead of "biding their time." I'm a believer that this approach can be applied at public schools! You do not need to be a private school to get these results! Also, this school has expanded and now goes through middle school grades.

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.

More from this school
  • Cedar River Academy is a non-sectarian, college prep day school located in Enumclaw, Washington. We are innovators in education, applying research-based learning methods that result in high performing students. Cedar River Academy applies research-based learning methods that result in high performing students. We provide education opportunities for pre-kindergarten through eighth grade students, and will launch our high school program in 2012. The results of our work are impressive -- our teachers are happy, our students are happy, we expect 100% of our students to graduate, and 100% be ready for college. Our students are, by the way, learning broadly and deeply. Our student body is intentionally heterogeneous. We accept students as they come, build on their strengths, and work to eliminate their weaknesses. Our certified teachers develop integrated thematic curricula that embodies State standards and assures student engagement and self-directed learning. Every student has the opportunity and support to make continuous progress towards mastery of reading, writing, communications, mathematics, social studies, foreign language, fine arts, music, and physical education standards. Our multi-age group classrooms encourage student-driven learning. Student progress is tracked along subject-specific knowledge continuums, rather than traditional grade levels. We recognize that students progress faster in some subjects than in others. We operate a ten-month school calendar that includes nearly 200 days of instruction. Our student to teacher ratio is 16:1. Cedar River Academy's Student-Centered Education Model is derived from extensive brain research. We know that humans learn by doing, accessing background knowledge gained from previous experiences, and combining it with new information derived from their environment. Adults in our classrooms are observers, mentors, coaches, and guides of individual students. Teachers develop curricula units that embody the content of multiple subjects. These units are designed to include projects and activities that allow students to explore the subject matter in multiple ways to leverage their multiple intelligences. Learning activities are designed to address individual student interests, and to engage the mind and body.
