My children both attended Brooklake, one for 8 years, and one for 4. I thought my kids' teachers were good (especially middle school), but the way that school is run is unbelievable. The church does NOT treat the school as a ministry of the church. The pastor never come to assemblies or events - my child didn't even know who the pastor was after attending for 8 years. Second, the administration is a joke. A music teacher was the principal, then a fantastic teacher (he was really good, so they let him go), then retiring teacher, and now a secretary (with no relevant experience) is principal? Teachers live in fear of losing their jobs; fantastic teachers are let go on the last day of school each year with no advance warning. Five years ago, they fired all of the middle school teachers, not anticipating that parents really liked those teachers. Middle school enrollment plummeted from about 60 students to only 15 total the next year, and the middle school is now closed. My kids had a great education, but if I were to do it over again, it would NOT be at Brooklake. The underhandedness, un-Christianlike behavior and deeds behind the scenes at BCS have no place in Christian school.
Brooklake Christian is an excellent private Christian School to start your preschool child up to 5th grade. The staff is excellent, the teachers are terrific, and my son is thriving with all the activities, academics, and structure. The price is comparable to other private schools in the area. Recommend!!
I have 2 children that attend Brooklake & I feel so blessed to have found this school. My kids love going to school every day & the teachers are amazing. They teach in a way that is fun, and both my kids are well ahead of the curve. In addition to reading, writing, & math, prayer and Bible study are also an important part of my kids' day. I'm so thankful they're learning in a place that is teaching them the same values at school as we are at home.
It is obvious the person writing this review is one of the many employees that work at the school and have their children attending there. If you talk to the vast majority of parents- ( I would say approaching 80%), they are very dissatisfied and on the way out. I should add that these are people that have attended the school for the last few years and have seen first hand what is happening at this school.
My daughter has been attending Brooklake for four years now and it is a wonderful place to send your children. The kids not only learn the basics, they are also taught how to treat others and how to behave. The teachers know all the kids and care about them. Recent reviews that were harsh were made by parents who were actually causing issues at the end of the school year and are just disgruntled. Give this school a try for yourself and see what happens!
I agree with the low reviews of this school. My children attended this school for 4 years and our experience was average. They cram 25 students per classroom. Poor library set up, no AR program. The curriculm was average but out of date compared to the school we now attend. Nepotism appeared prevalent and seemed to help if you were a member of the Church. Apppeared like a school with a Christian vibe, they fire teachers yearly without being truthful to them about renewing their contract, etc. There was no Principal, unless you count a secretary that was given the title of "School Administrator". Another person was the accountant and seemed to run the show. We left in 2012 to go to another Christian School and it has been a blessing. Both my children just received "A " Honors Roll, Top all around Student and other awards this year for 2013. My only dissapointment is that I did not have my children leave sooner. There was a 5th grade teacher that was supposed to be excellent, but we did not wait around for that due to quality level of this school spiraling downward. My children needed extra tutoring to keep up with their new school. However, we do miss the Chess Club!
Don't listen to the last two posts. This is obviously the same person who has something against the school. I have two children that have attended Brooklake for years. It has been a great place for their education. The staff is great and it shows in the kids behavior. The kids are all respectful and I know if you ask them, they would say they love Brooklake. I highly recommend this school as it has been nothing but a positive experience for my kids and family.
Not returning next year. This school is in a downward spiral. Although most of the teachers are wonderful, the policies and leadership are awful. It is obvious the teachers have no voice. The administration is like a dictatorship. There are many other great private schools in the area. Avoid this one.
Christian school in name only--as far as the leadership act. The teachers are warm, caring, and engaged in the students. Sadly, there is no evidence that the administration have relationship with God. They are completely focused on $$ and outward appearances. I would be surprised if the school survives the coming year. Numbers have dropped significantly- and it's obvious why.
My child attends Brooklake and has for the past several years. We are very happy with the school and the staff. It is true as previous reviews have stated, the administration has changed, but I feel they are doing a great job. The teachers and administrators always put the kids first.
As a former parent, I do not recommend this school. Although the teachers are great, business and financial decisions have hurt the school's atmosphere in the last few years, causing many teachers and families to leave the school. If you are looking for a Christian school, enroll elsewhere.
My daughter has been attending this wonderful school for 3 years now. Her teachers are wonderful and she learns so much compared to her peers attending an excellent public school in our area. She is very confident, enjoys going to school and she is very happy going to this school. The teachers care for their students and strive to make certain that their students are learning and thriving. I love the fact that the kids wear uniforms and that they are taught about values. I would recommend this school to parents who would like to send their child to a wonderful school.
My children have attended Brooklake since preschool (they are now in the elementary program). I have been more than pleased with the school, the teachers and staff, the curriculum and the friendships I have made. I highly recommend the school.
I went to Brooklake for over years and years... I just left this past year. I never liked this school, the teachers were mostly alright but most not. The teachers take things way too seriously, and also the principles have not been satisfactory. If one child says something to the teacher they just go and assume that this thing in which the child says is true when maybe it isn't. Then they tell the principle and they talk to you to, even about stuff that isn't even that serious, just harmful stuff. Then they go and talk to the child that has been told on, and say things that are highly rude and not acceptable. Overall i would say I am very happy that I do not attend this school anymore...
My son has been going to Brooklake since preschool and is in second grade now. Teachers have been fabulous, school safety and atmosphere superior. However, in the last year, I know two students that were in the same grade have been taken out of Brooklake and put in public schools. The curriculum at Brooklake is behind the public school teaching of these other two students. I wish they offered accelerated programs like they do in the public school of Browns Point and Green Gables.
I have been going to this school since kindergarten. I'm extremely depressed to know that I'm going to be leaving this year. The students here are so kind and loving. The teachers are amazing and they know how to communicate the concept wiht the child. They take extra time with students if they need help. They have tutored after school or even breaks. The person who wrote the classes are an average of 27 people is wrong . In all my years of being in Brooklake my average class size has been 18-20 students. Plus, the teachers take extra time if you don't get a topic. This is way better than a public school. This is an excellent school to go to. I wish I didn't have to leave. If they had a high school I would stay without thinking twice. You won't regret sending your child here.
I had high hopes when moving my son from a public school to Brooklake, so I guess disappointment was bound to happen. I am more than frusterated, as are the teachers, at the class sizes. I was told at orientation that the class sizes are 14-19, however, apparently they only have two teachers this year and the class sizes often range around 27. The office has assured me that this is 'only at certain times of the day' however, my son and his teacher both claim that the class size is 27 the majority of the day. The 'specialized attention' I was hoping he would receive is not happening.
Wonderful Elementary program and I am sure Middle School will be just as great!
Both of my children have attended this school since Kindergarten and are now in the Middle School program. We, as well as our children, have been very happy with the entire experience. Of course, there have been occassional issues that come up but they have always been dealt with professionally and with an eye to what's best for the children. The administration is professional and qualified and has dealt appropriately when problems have arisen. They offer a variety of extracurricular activities (German, chess, science, crafts, etc). Although the sports program is small it is very successful. We are very sad to have to leave the school after 8th grade!
We have been extremely pleased with our children's progress at Brooklake Christian School. There is a strong emphasis upon Christian values as well as a rigorous, well-rounded academic program.
