I must say that Peninsula School District and Kopachuck Middle School are by far much better than the schools my children have attended in another nearby distrcit. The Vice Principal has been very supportive. Most of the teachers and the counselors have also been very supportive. I was disappointed though that another parent was allowed to corner my child in the hallway and have a conversation with him without anyones knowledge.
Kopachuck Middle school is a great school. Leadership by the studens and teachers are good role models to younger students. If your were going to move to gig harbor-Fox Island area make sure you go to Kopachuck.
Kopachuck Middle School has a wonderful staff and scores very high on the WASL. However, according to the Kopachuck website: 'Title 1/LAP: Kopachuck receives no Title 1 funds and only minimal LAP funds. We offer LAP literacy classes for struggling students as well as math and literacy support classes for students not meeting standard on the WASL.' The preceding phrase is great if your child is below the WASL standard, but useless if your child is borderline on the WASL standard. My child is struggling in a few classes, and the Kopachuck staff advised me to take my child to a private tutoring, of which I would have to pay for. As my child attends a public school, I thought it was the school district's responsibility to ensure that NO CHILD IS LEFT BEHIND.
Kopachuck middle school (all Peninsula public middle schools)meets the academic needs of the average student well. All honors programs were eliminated 5 years ago in the middle schools in favor of the 'cluster model'. Parent and student requests for more challenging class options have largely been ignored, except in math where students can test up one year. A 'one size fits all' curriculum may be good for WASL scores, but not meeting the academic needs of a significant percentage of students at both ends of the spectrum is a failure that public schools, and our country will pay the price of down the road. Although a problem in many public schools, Kopachuck has received the most feedback from parents and students in this district and has not made any changes to date.
great school only went there for a year but loved it!
at kopachuck there are alot of cludbs that are open to all students such as track soccer and wrestling. there is also a sewing club and a golfing club share is another thing students can do.parents are involved in the KPO Kopachuck Parent Organization. Kopachuck is a well rounded school.
Kopachuck scores highly on SAT's and the staff is caring and friendly. For a public school, it is a good one...
Kopachuck is a great school for average students. However, the resources needed to help children with learning disabilities is a serious problem.
