Oh, by the way the schools educational programs were about as easy as counting with elmo, i was able to easily fly through every lesson getting all of them at the least 90% correct with lots of time to spare, I was considered one of the smartest kids in school when i was just as average as the next guy.

The discipline program at this school provides consistent consiquences at all levels. The points system can by time consuming at first, but an organized teacher manages to fit them in with no difficulty. The process of having concerns helps the children to develope skills in having open and respectful communication about conflicts they may be having with one another. It is the responsibility of the teacher to recognize when the system is being abused. The steps allow for gradual discipline to occur if a child continues to be disruptive and it removes them from disrupting other students. Just because this system is in place, it does not mean that modeling behavior and setting clear expectations is not done at the beginning of the year. It is done at the beginning and continues to be modeled throughout the year as it should be done in any school.

This is the best school. My daughter is looking forward to going to school for the first time since she started school, she's in 5th grade now. School year 2003-2004 was her first year at Finley and at the begining of the year she cried everyday, before Thankgiving break, she was not crying and was riding the bus, I know the change came due to the caring staff and the comfort they helped her feel in adjusting to the change in schools and growing up.

I tend to agree with the last parent comment. The discipline is a 'bit over the top.' As a teacher, I felt that a lot of instructional time was lost 'taking points' for the Make Your Day program. Students quickly figure out how to work the system, especially for substitute teachers. It is very seldom that students do not Make Their Day. Addressing 'Concerns' can drag on for a long time. Better to teach/model and practice the routines and expectations at the beginning/throughout the year. Then hold them accountable with age appropriate consequences.

Our son is in kindergarten and we also have a nephew in 1st grade and we along with some others have a problem with the discipline scale being used. The teachers are disiplining the children for crying. What kind of school is that? All kids cry sometimes for one reason or another, but it is much harder for the younger kids to deal with things and when someone hurts their feelings or something they are entitled to cry but the school is teaching them that it is wrong to cry. I don't like that one bit and on top of it when they get in trouble and have to do one of the steps the parents are not even informed by the teacher. Something needs to be done about this.
