All three of my children graduated from Kennewick High and were involved in a multitude of activities. The teachers at Kennewick High are some of the hardest working educators around. People make a school and Kennewick has some of the best people around.
The academic programs are top of the line, all extra cirricular actvities are available, and parent can get deeply involved. School spirit is a little lacking though.
There are some excellent programs at Kennewick High School. If your child is a decent student I highly recommend the IB program there. The teachers and counselors associated with that program are the best in the buiding. The band and orchestra programs are also very fine although the quality of the student musicians in the Tri-Cities area tend to be poor. The team sports are also pretty good. The parent support is good, but its a small group of parents that provide the most support. There is drug use among the middle and poorer kids. The open houses are poorly attended and the principal's leadership is lacking.
Kennewick is the only IB School around and the program is wonderful.
As parent of a student currently attending KHS, I along with my husband, recently attended a school function, we were dismayed at the apparent lack of school spirit. As we walked up and down the halls, we noticed there were no bright or vivid school colors, no up-coming sporting events advertised or splattered artistically around, nothing that conveyed a sense of school spirit or teamwork between faculty and students. Such an unpleasant and depressing learning facility! I have found much of the problems with this school are the simple facts that the staff members are unwilling to let these young adults be treated as such,as with the dress code. Yes, our kids need rules to follow to learn to productive, happy citizens, but they don't need their individuality hacked up by The 'London' Clothing Butcher!
Kennewick High has it's ups and downs. The dress code does needs some work but Ms. London has tried very hard to inforce it. Some of the students are just rude and don't care. The spirt is low but we don't have that many winning teams. Besides the Principal and the dean of students, the administration is great. You will find some of the best teachers in this school they work very hard and care a great deal about the students. Some of them should geat more credit then they do. (Former Student)Grad.2003
I am not quite sure how I would rate Kennewick High. They are in serious need of student, parent and community involvement. There is no school spirit. That may seem like a minor thing but it can improve the learning environment to have a positive feel with in the school. I feel there would be more student involvement in sports if there was not such an expense to participate. This would create more school spirit.
Kennewick High School is a good school. The IB program needs a new administrator but the teachers are wonderful. As with most schools, jocks get favored status. The music department is outstanding. The principal is out of touch with students. Drugs are readily available at all Kennewick high schools. The dress code is never enforced, shame on you! Some female students dress inappropriately on a daily basis with no consequences. Counseling and career departments are excellent. Staff quality is very good and teachers are responsive to parents and students overall.
At Kennewick High school we service a more rounded student. The focus isn't on the clothes you wear rather than the person you are to become. We serve a higher number of ESL and SPED students than the schools in the surrounding area.
All Kennewick school have a poor rating with kids that have ADD, they don't seem to get the help they need. None of the kids that my son knew with ADD completed high school they all dropped out. I think with a small amount of help they would have completed school and would now be doing better then they are.
