Most of aides' and teachers' time is spent enforcing rules. On one hand, the office is staff is some of the kindest, helpful and supportive people I've seen in a school. However, the kids in my child's 5th grade class were doing 1st and 3rd grade math. We were told many kids in that class couldn't subtract and had English as a second language. My main complaint was so much time and energy on creating rules and then reinforcing rules. I saw one administrator pull a flower out of a girl's hand while she waited in line for the bus. And, with a disgusted sneer, he tossed it aside to be trampled by everyone. Seems like a little bit of power goes a long way... Seems like they're preparing kids for a life in prison. Calling it like I see it.

My eldest child is in 3rd grade and every year at Sunnycrest she has excelled. The 2010-2011 year was transitional and not many activities were offered because the students were relocated to a school 8 miles away while the new school was constructed. From the beginning 2011 school year, numerous activities for students and parents have been implemented. The teaching staff is empowered to teach to each student s strength. The leadership has added multiple programs including one of the few dual-language programs in western Washington. My youngest daughter has excelled in this program as an English speaker and is exceeding the school district standards. Mr. Baca, the principal, is very active around the school everyday and communicates with students, staff, parents and the community to maintain programs proven to work as well as look for additional programs to improve the school.

I have been very disappointed. My daughter is going into 2nd grade. Her Kindergarten teacher put her in time out every other day. She is not a bad kid, she had a learning disability that her teacher ignored. She hated school. It might have been good a couple years ago but I would not recommend after what we have experienced. If we can find an alternative I will. No activities. Nothing extra to offer. Just because the building will be new this year means nothing. Lets get some quality teachers and leadership.

Having relocated here from Florida, I have 2 children currently enrolled at Sunnycrest. The teachers, staff and Principal - Mr Capp (who is leaving-I am going to miss him) have been exceptional in helping my children adjust not only to a new school but a different enviroment. I look forward to having my next child enroll in this school as well.

I have two children currently enrolled at Sunnycrest. The teachers are exceptional. They are great and work well with the children. The principal goes out of his way to make sure the children are doing their best to achieve their school goals. Both the teacher's and the pricipal keep the parents aware of the their childrens progress in school, and encourge the parents to participate in their childrens education. I believe the school goes way beyond the expectations that are required of them. I also love the fact that Sunnycrest is a year long school, my children do not lose everything they learned the previous year during the average 3 month summer break that other schools get.

Sunnycrest provided the best education for my two children. I am impressed with their improvement in reading and especially math. Teachers work with students to provide their needs. The SFA reading program proved an outstanding reading program. The principal, Mr. Capp, demonstrates daily his love of students.

Profile Completeness

Want to improve this school's profile?

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.
