Academic focus and philosophy

Educational philosophy and approach to learning The classical trivium provides the methodology and content of our instruction. Recognizing the grammar, logic, and rhetoric stages, we approach teaching in a way that corresponds to the child’s cognitive development and cultivates a life-long love of learning. An emphasis on the liberal arts (including math and science) helps students develop into readers and thinkers as they study the great works of the Western world; developing soundness of judgment, wisdom of speech and integrity of conduct.

Parent involvement details Parent communication is critical to the practice of teaching in loco parentis (teacher is responsible in place of the parent) , and it's our desire to keep parents informed regarding their child's progress and school events. The Highlander Herald is sent home weekly and teachers email or call parents regularly. Our school is predicated upon a philosophy of partnership, and each family at Providence is required to volunteer for a required sum of hours determined by the student's grade level.
