Profile Completeness

INTERMEDIATE

Want to improve this school’s profile? You can!

All schools on GreatSchools begin with BASIC completeness, which includes important information like contact details and test scores. It’s up to the school community to take the next steps. As a parent or community member, you can share what you know with other families by writing a review or answering a few questions about what the school offers. As a school leader, you can upload photos, describe school programs, and more with an Official school profile.

The completeness meter moves to INTERMEDIATE, then ADVANCED, and finally HONOR ROLL as you complete the following: 10 or more reviews, at least 1 photo, and 9 program questions parents find helpful.

My children attended Lakes for two years. Under different leadership, I would recommend the school to anyone. The outgoing principal was the worst leadership I've seen in a school in 30 years. The teachers are amazing--they're supportive to the children and are never out of line with the them. However, beware if you're coming in from another school system or out of state. The school system as a whole caters to state testing, there's barely any emphasis on science, and they really push being politically correct---so no one loses or wins anything or makes an "A" or a "B". The 1-4 grading system is 90% subjective and how the teacher "feels" the child did.

We couldn't ask for a better school for our children! We got a waiver to attend Lakes after hearing from friends how exceptional the teachers and staff are. I can't believe the difference! Our children have attended 2 other elementary schools in Lacey....there is no comparison! If you want your children to be in the best hands, with the most attentive and caring teachers, Lakes is the school for you!

This school is very well run! The teachers care about the students, and the principals can often been seen walking around and checking on things.

The teachers are excellent, but the office staff are unhelpful and cold. They are not great about keeping parents informed of policy and procedure.

The learning experience my child has had at this school is great. She learns how to work well with other and how to make good choices. The only problem I have is there is no Open Door Policy. If you want to drop in on your kids and see how their doing you Can Not. You have to make a appointment a day in advance to check on your child. I really disagree with that policy and it needs to be changed. A parent should never have to make an appointment to check on their child. It is very uncomfortable for parents from other states. Who is concerned with the transition of their child.

Three of my children attended Lakes in the past. Ms. Quiocho is the best teacher any of my children have ever had. The staff is friendly and they truly care about the students.

My kids just started at Lakes this year. From the first moment I had contact with the school to register my daughters, everyone has been friendly helpful and responsive. I am especially pleased with the high value the school is placing on teaching problem solving and conflict resolution skills.

I am new to Lakes this year due to my son's class moving but, so far the tansition has been great. Help from all the staff I have asked help from has been a major key in such a smooth transition. The safety of the kids is a major focus at Lakes and it is nice to see. Keep up the good work!

I have been connected to Lakes Elementary since September 1995 and our last child is now attending. The staff at Lakes puts in 100% everyday. They are connected with the students, parents and our community. They are passionate about teaching and the success of their students is important to them.

The teachers and staff are so giving of their time and there own funds that it makes taking my child to school a blessing. She loves it and so do I. I hear so many other parents complain about their school but hear little complaint on Lakes Elementary

We had very high hopes for this school after being in MO. We have a second grade student. We have felt unwelcomed by the staff. There never seems to be time to talk with the teacher because before school she needs to get the kids ready and after school they seem ready to leave. There is very little information sent home regarding our child's progress. The only homework has been to read. This year in the school we moved from our student was excited to be learning more spelling, alphabetizing, grammar, beginning division and multilplication, as well as cursive writing...Lakes will not be doing any of these items. Our student is often bored and is not encouraged to explore new things he wants to learn. The idea of the 1-4 rating rather than grading is very disappointing seems to apprear to be more of an opinion.

Lakes Elementary is a large school with a socially friendly, kind, and caring atmosphere. As a parent of a kindergartener at this school, I was greatly appreciative of the warm and attentive staff. Teachers were helpful and receptive to parents and students alike. Lakes is a nurturing place for children to learn.

The academic programs at Lakes Elementary have been extremely limited due to budget. Unless your child is in the top 2% of the population there is zero enrichment, extra-curriculur activities, or additional activities available for gifted children. However, the help is there if your child is learning disabled. All the art teachers were let go due to budget. There are no sports offered, and there are no extra-curricular activities. The parent involvement is high, in my daughter's 1st grade class of 22 students there were 8 parent volunteers. I am not happy with the lack of enhancement for gifted children.

This year has just been wonderful so far with getting to know Teachers and other Parents! I love how the office staff always smiles and says 'Hi' when you walk in the door. Teachers have been great about answering notes about how my children are doing in school, and the Principal is always smiling (I don't know how!) and seems to sincerely care about all the children in the school! I know I am looking forward to meeting the rest of Lakes' Staff!

Yesterday I went to pick my son up from school and they have a seperate fenced in area where the kids being picked up from school go in to while there is an attendant at the exit to the fenced in area. One child at a time is let out and the attendant has the child point out their parent before she releases them I thought that it was a nice precaussion, considering we just transfered from Lacey my advice on that: do not send your children to Lacey, anyway I wrote the teacher a note and she responded promptly, unlike at Lacey where I would call the teacher a couple times and send a note and never get a response. So far my son and I are liking this school it seems to be run more organized and has friendlier staff. We will meet his teacher today!
