The principal is great and you can tell he cares about the kids. I believe the teachers are held back. They care deeply but arn't given the tools or time to do all that they could do. The special education services are lacking. The special education teachers are great but they are over worked and don't get the supplies they need. I would rate the teachers and staff with 5 stars and the system they depend on 0 stars.

We are very happy with this school. Our son made friends easily. The classes are challenging and the principal, assistant principal, and counselors are great!

Horrible communication. It's literally non-existent between the faculty and parents. Students aren't even allowed to bring home text books!!!

This is a fine school with advanced classes and lots for the kids to do.The teachers try to ready the children for high school. Thy set the rules and challange the children to the limits, your child will learn at this school and if you are involved in the school and your childs work all the better.

My daughters suggest that most people take art.The program is excellent and the teacher is superb! He teaches everything you need to learn in art, while he adds fun to the projects!

We are entering our third year at OHMS and have always gotten conflicting messages from the rule-set, teachers and administration. The students and parents are often treated as though they are merely preschool students (ie the parents being given a lesson in clapping before the start of a band concert), students being required to line up by gender for lunch and other strange things most would think would be left behind by elementary school. Their selection of classes is fair for this level of education, but students are given only one elective a year, forcing choir and band students to give up other electives such as Spanish. I have encountered some of the most incredible teachers ever at OHMS though, which more than makes-up for many of the misgivings the school has. Gifted teachers are worth their weight in gold, and this school has been blessed with quite a few!

I think that this school is a little to hard on the kids, they treat sixth graders like they are in high school, these kids are still only 11 and 12 years old , but are left to there own devices to try to get them to have more 'responsibility' so far none of the teachers have impressed me, I have taught my daughter more than they have, it is sad that this is what has become of school.

Oak Harbor Middle School needs a change. The principle needs to be more productive in understanding the needs of all the children, not just the advanced. All of our children deserve a free, public education...and this school, among most in Oak Harbor, are lacking. This is middle school asks our children to 'make the right choice', but yet they are treated daily as if they were in a penitentiary. At what age or grade do we allow our children to start making the right choice? Now is that time...

My child attended 6th and 7th grade here and enjoyed the school. The teachers were great and the councilers really care about the kids and know them all by name. The art program was great for creativity. Overall I couldnt ask for a better Middle school for my child.
