i have had our kids attending this school since preschool. they are now in 4th & 2nd grade. the classes are small, which can be tough in certain social situations, but it also means, to me, that the kids are getting the attention they need to excel. the teachers we have had have been wonderfully kind, though firm, & gently encouraging. one of the benefits to a small school is that the staff is familiar with the families attending the school, and the kids are familiar with them as well. it feels very safe, and i like knowing that the staff supports us in our endeavors to raise the kids in a Christian manner. there is no hot lunch program, but there are various fundraisers throughout the year that then provide a hot lunch on one or two days a week. they have art & p.e. programs, though once a week. they also receive some computer instruction, again, once a week. there is a school library they visit once a week as well. we love this school, & plan to keep our kids there as long as we can afford to, until they reach high school. they receive great foundations in math, English, & reading. the last few valedictorians from the public high school have been former OHCS students.

Pros: -Small class size (10-12 kids) -Weekly school gathering Cons: -Weak administration; slow to respond & not open to change -No hot lunch program -Weak PE program (PE once a week, if that) -Each yr PE & Art are on the chopping block -No programs avail to help those kids who are struggling -80% + of staff lack teaching degrees -Weak PC program -Like any school public or private some teachers are better than others

This was a great school, I'm glad I attended 5-8th grade. I knew much more about math and english(science too) then some of the public school kids. It was a great experience.

I think this school was amazing. Teachers were very kind and excited to teach the children in their class. I was hoping to get my daughter in there for kindergarden but the price tag a month was a little to much for a family with 1 income. If prices would have stayed lower this year I would have definatly put her in school there for another year.

I love this school! My daughter started this year and I have not had one complaint. The principal and all teachers are amazing and truly care for the kids. My daughter's curriculum is based on her needs and is different for every kid. I feel it's more of a small town school, rather than one that's run by people who aren't around. My daughter will definitely be attending as long as we live here.

Oak Harbor Christian School has been the best educational decision we have made. Our son has excelled in academics and on a personal level. The teachers go above and beyond to communicate and facilitate when necessary. My son is in kindergarten and reads on a first grade level. As a military family, we have been welcomed as though we were 'locals'.

I was a student at OHHS from 1990-2000 and I really took for granted the kind of education there. The elementary teachers were incredibly awsome and in middle school I learned very valuable skills that would help me in High School. The care the teachers put into the classroom is astounding and really shows Gods love for everyone. There aren't any put downs or ridicule made if a student doesn't get a question correct. The teachers also keep the classes very inviting for learning and easy to ask questions. I will send my kids there if I still live in Oak Harbor when I have them. It is a great institution that makes learning enjoyable and a lot of fun for both the kids and parents(my mom said that).

About these ratings

The Community Rating is the school’s average rating from its community members (e.g., parents, students, and school staff). The highest possible rating is five stars; the lowest is one star.

We currently do not have any test score information for this school. Unlike public schools, private schools are not always required to report data about their schools or not required to take the same tests as public schools. Many private schools take different standardized tests; however, that information is often made available only to families of enrolled students. We strive to acquire additional private school data whenever available.
