Teacher quality
Principal leadership
Parent involvement
My children have excelled at OCS. The small class sizes mean they get a lot of individual attention. As a result their standardized test scores are are in the upper percentile of the country proving you don't have to spend a fortune for good academics. My children have developed close, healthy friendships with their classmates. As a parent I find the teachers and principal are very accessible. They are great Christian role models. My experience has been excellent.
I think this is an excellent school. Not only are students well prepared for their future academically, but the teachers truly love and care about the kids. I had a child who attended for several years. During that time our family was going through a divorce, and my child took out his anger on the teacher, rebelling at authority. The teacher loved my child through that difficult time, and today my child says she was his favorite teacher. I would recommend this school to anyone who wants a loving and nurturing environment, yet teaches kids to be responsible for themselves.
I have had my kids at OCS for the past 12 years. I have been very pleased with the quality of education they have received. The teachers have done what they could to make sure that our kids have learned to do their best. The teachers have challenged them academically as well as being spiritual leaders. I love that the teachers can pray with the kids and talk about the love of our Savior. There is also some awesome extra curricular activities such as a sign language choir, bells, and chimes. I would recommend our school to anyone who is wanting a christian atmosphere, smaller classroom sizes and excellent academics. We love OCS!
I am appalled at the comment "child with baggage"! How could an educator say that about ANY child? Also, if the person leaving the initial comment was an ex-employ then wouldn't she be aware of the "climate of the school?" I came here to talk about the experience my children and I experienced with this school, but I believe that horrible comment, and the significant drop in enrollment speaks for itself. How sad that the adult who verbally attacked a young child, is representing Christian values.
I am a parent of two OCS students. One is now a successful university student while the other is still at OCS. Both my children love OCS dearly. They are both well prepared for whatever lies ahead. The teachers are both professional and spiritual. I cannot believe that people can verbally bash a school that is committed to both preparing kids to serve their Maker and their community. I love OCS and so do my kids. I sincerely hope that the people who wrote these negative reviews find what they are looking for. I feel bad that they did not get what they wanted. I have gotten what I want an education for my children. Thank you OCS.
I used to go to OCS and wish I could have stayed longer. The education you can receive at this school is excellent. I cannot emphasize this more. For example, after 10th grade I was ready to do college-level work and do high school at the same time! This school has so much to offer, not only academically, but emotionally, socially and most importantly spiritually. Please pay no attention to the catharsis seen in other reviews. In all good places there must be some who try to kill the spirit. I am proud to have come from this school.
I was student at OCS for eight years and honestly, I hated it there. The Seventh-Day Adventists teachers disliked me to the extreme and my 7th and 8th grade teacher was of no help to me in my work there, especially when I struggled in my math. I would not recommend this school for any parent to send their child to.
I am very disappointed to see that none of the other several parents, that ripped their kids out of this school when I did, rated this school. Apparently the staff of this school was not raised with the same Christian values that I was or that I intend to raise my child with. I could go on for hours about OCS, but I'll keep it short & sweet...........No issues were ever dealt with, they were always mine or my child's fault. So why did so many parents pull their kids out at the same time? Or is that issue their fault too? Or maybe, it's OCS........ Life is good now & my child is very successful in her new school. No problems!
I am so glad to have discovered a web site such as this..it is a great tool for making good choices for your childs education. I had a child attend this school for almost a year but transferred my child to public school after I realized OCS was not a good fit for our family. If you want to understand their Christian philosophy, I guess you can read the last post below as that shows the way they handle issues.
Some kids come to OCS with baggage & needs academically that NO private Christian school is equipped to handle, so yes, that student will do better in a public school where they can receive special help. As for Christian teaching, find me a public school that begins/ends each day with public prayer; speaks of God & Christ throughout the day; problem solves using Christian principles and discussion; and exhibits an attitude of Christ throughout the day. A workbook is used for Bible class, (yes, the Bible is a 'workbook' also,) but to state that that is the extent of Christian teaching that goes on at OCS is CLEARLY the words of a disgruntled parent/ex employee who didn't get her way! How would she know the climate throughout the day? Please refer to the other reviews and not let one ex-employee taint what could be an outstanding opportunity for your child!
This school is a SDA influenced community not just a school. Many rating are based on the priority of SDA education and not reality or academics. Children do not get thorough instruction or individualized attention. The have multiple grade classrooms, so its very easy for academic issues to go un noticed, or if noticed not addressed. There are a few great teachers, but feel their talents are limited by the time it takes to teach 3 grades at a time. My child has been playing catch up after attending for 4 years. His over all self esteem, self perception and scores shot up after his transition to a public school. As far as Christian teaching other than Friday 'worship' expect a workbook. Do your research first. My family remains Christian. I'm positive God would want my son to reach his potential for education. O.C.S is not it.
I have watched students enter Olympia Christian School with indifferent or negative attitudes and in the course of 4-5 months see their attitudes totally change for the better! The proof for me is in the results of changed lives, higher test scores, and a positive environment that promotes excellence and the value of every human being as a child of God. I love the racial diversity also represented at O.C.S. Check it out for yourselves!
I have attended this school for 2 years both 9th and 10th grades. The classes are challenging enough to keep me interested and the teachers are very caring and willing to help out. I would recommend this school to anyone, whether you're 7th day Adventist or not this school will welcome you with open arms.
My child has attended Olympia Christian School for 4 years now. The school provides a very healthy environment for the children. The learning program is excellent. the teacher-student realationships help alot.My daughter is in The bellchoir and The sign language choir and she enjoys every moment of it. I recommend this school To anyone who would like there children to be in a safe and fun environment.
My children have attended Olympia Christian School for three years. I could not be happier with the education they have received. The teachers are professional, caring, and gentle with the kids. The extracurricular programs are extraordinary with a sign language choir, a girls choir, and one of the best handbell choirs in the state. I would recommend OCS to anyone looking for a wonderful, Christian school for their child.
My children have attended OCS for three years now and I couldn't be happier with their educational experience. OCS has amazing teachers and a loving, safe environment for me to leave my children in. I can't recommend OCS high enough.
