ORLA provides a wide range of activities to families who may not have the resources or be able to teach the higher levels of courses.
We are so happy to have stumbled upon ORLA. My children have always attended traditional schools, but this year we wanted something that offered a bit more. ORLA is a part of the Olympia School District, but designed for homeschooling families. It is set up like a little college, with kids moving from class to class, courses chosen often based on interests. The teachers at ORLA are professional and really understand and respect that all kids learn differently, and this format allows kids to reach their full potential. Parents here are very involved in their children's education, and that lends toward a warm, family-focused environment. Children are assigned to the core classes (if you choose to take these) based on their abilities, not age, so they get the support they need, whether it's remedial or advanced. The "2" score is misleading, as the students at ORLA are not "taught the test", but instead provided a rich, interesting and nurturing education. The art program at ORLA is outstanding, and that's not something we get a lot of in the public schools anymore unfortunately. We are grateful for the opportunity to be a part of ORLA!
I am a former student at ORLA, and it's simply incredible. Some of the best teachers, in terms of teaching the material as well as inspiring me and my fellow students. They have a wonderful arts department, from singing, dancing, acting, video production, photography, graphic design, etc. Partnering this with a running start program at SPSCC, was the best schooling any of my peers got. I truly believe it is one of the best schools ever, and the students who attended with me will go on to great further educational careers and great lives!
