I used to go to Oroville High School. The only thing I have to say about that is the students don't realize their potential until they are out of the high school. They have a small town mentality and don't push themselves to strive for the best that they can. That's why when I have my kids they will not be attending OHS. I will send my kids to a bigger school.

This school has its ups and downs... I myself have gone there as a freshman in high school. Oroville has some great teachers and some terrible ones. However if your seeking sports, then Oroville may not be the place to go. The football team is terrible.

Oroville does have some quality teachers that care about their students and their future. Those teachers seek out relationships with students, meet them where they are and believe in them. Other teachers, however are given carte blanc status, they do not contribute to the community of our youth. Parents are not valued in the school, unless they are sponsoring an activity that the teachers and school supports. Curriculum is not provided to parents to assess and review.

I hear a lot of complaints by just being a 'fly on the wall' and I tend to disagree with them. Oroville Jr/Sr. High School, is a great school. We have great staff, great booster help, and amazing leadership in the higher areas (not being specific), and beyond. The problems with Oroville Schools are, the students. They don't take advantage of the opportunities that are given to them. They don't realize that school IS their future. It was shown with the WASL scores! I hope this coming school year will be the best, but it starts with the students.

What I find odd is that this whole town is run like a giant high school with the actual high school at the center of life. However, our education level is Well below average. The greatest aspiration given to these kids is to come back as a teacher to Oroville...those who don't want to get no support from the community. No wonder our children don't value the education enough to fight for it.
