Great School moved here from Oregon and both kids go/went there had couple little incidents with kids bullying but the school handeld it very well. Overall I give them 5 stars because they have a very good hardworking staff of people working there!!! :-) :-) :-)
This is the best school ever my kids go there best school in port orchard the principal Mr Pickard was also voted best principal.
SOUTH COLBY ROCKS...... SMALL SCHOOL, SMALL CLASS, MORE ONE ON ONE..... GREAT TEACHERS AND STAFF.....BEST SCHOOL IN PORT ORCHARD.
We moved to Port Orchard from TX, and decided to move to this area based on reviews of the schools. We couldn't have been happier!!! We had 3 children enrolled into South Colby, two of whom are extremely shy, and on their first day of school (we moved in the middle of the year), they made several friends. Many of the students welcomed them, and some even wrote them Welcome to South Colby notes....ON THEIR OWN!!! Mr. Pickard, the principle is hands down the best principle of any school we've ever been to, and the kids LOVE HIM! He knows every kid by name in his school and cares for each of them. The teachers are great, and did a great job ensuring our kids felt comfortable getting acclimated to their new environment. If your moving to Port Orchard, you want to enroll your child in South Colby Elementary!!!! Mullenix is a great choice as well, but South Colby has more of a "family" feel to it! I can't say enough good things about this school, the Staff, and the students!!! Because of the environment fostered at this school, my children have blossomed, both socially and academically!
I chose to send my son to this school based off reviews from this site. We live outside the area of bus pickup so we drive him every day so that he can go there. The teachers have all been amazing. The principal is very involved and accessible. Parents are very involved and welcomed. This school has been absolutely wonderful. My son will be in 5th grade next year and he loves it too.
My daughter was here for 3 years. She loves all her teachers. I hate that we are moving and have to leave this great school.
My son has been going to South Colby for three years and we just love it. My son loves going to school because the teachers are great, he enjoys music class, and likes to do the extracurricular P.E. and science classes when they are offered. The principal, Brian Pickard, is involved in everything from motivating the kids to helping patrol the pickup area after school. I have been impressed by this school from the very beginning.
As a student of South Colby, I notice how amazing it is. I came to the school as a new kid, but instead of people making fun of me, I realized how well behaved and nice they were. Plus, I have never seen any bullying there. The teachers you can tell really do care about my learning. They know that my education is important, and thats what I think is whats right. They really do prepare us for our future extremely well. Respect is the golden rule of life, and it seems everyone at south colby elementary school grasps that idea. Thats why I love this school so much.
This school rocks! Having attended it myself, my child now attends. We adore the principal, he is such a positive influence on everyone at this school, from students, to teachers to parents! We moved to this school from a less desireable school in the district, and what a difference it has made on our child! The vibe is incredibly positive, the environment is awesome, the teachers are all helpful and happy, and they make learning fun and exciting at this school. The total experience is favorable and S. Colby gets a huge Thumbs up!
An absolutely great school with a positive learning environment. The Principal leads by example and expects no less from the staff. It's a warm and welcoming school. To the Staff who may read this: Great job, keep up the good work. It's appreciated.
Parents should contact and visit schools directly to learn and see the true facts first hand. The general information you provide related to all schools is very inaccurate, negative, and misleading. South Colby, as reflected in it's scores, is an outstanding school due to dedicated families, students, and staff. They are close knit family working together. Washington's WASL is not a standardized test. It has specific and challenging high standards in math, reading, writing, and science. Trends in all areas are demonstrating positive growth. In WA and the United States public schools educate and take in all children. Public schools are a reflection of our communities and society in general. I am proud to be the Principal at South Colby!
This school has been an incredible experience for our children. The teachers are the best in the district and they are on the cutting edge of teaching. My kids are stimulated and both are at the top of their class. The only drawback at the school is the building, it is old and we are in desperate need of a new facility. But what goes on inside is more important than the exterior. The principal is incredible, he fosters a community/family environment. we are always welcome at the building and our comments are listened to and appreciated. He was also voted Principal of the year in our state in the past.
My daughter had Mrs. Warmedahl for kindergarten and she absolutely loved her! She is a very wonderful and caring teacher. My daughter learned so much in her class, I was very pleased to see my daughter reading complete sentences by the end of the year with no hesitation! South Colby Elem. is all about working together and parent involvement.
I am a substitute teacher, and have taught in all of the area schools, and South Colby is (by far) my choice for my daughter to attend. The teachers and administration are truly a team, and the atmosphere of respect is palpable. Teacher collaboration, multi-age classrooms, peer mediation and peer tutoring all help to create a real family and community feeling in the school. Family involvement is a priority with the South Colby staff. Last year, I believe 98% of parents participated in the quarterly parent-teacher conferences. Families are invited to all school assemblies, as well. Students have regular music classes with an excellent teacher and great equipment, and the opportunity to participate in extracurricular orchestra and/or choir. There are after-school sports activities and a very involved student government as well. Teachers receive up-to-date training and are encouraged to utilize their learning and new ideas in the classrooms. GREAT teachers!
I would hav to say that I'm grateful that I went to South Colby throughout my elementary education. Their teachers have a willingness not to let the students give up, and also teaches them discipline that enables students to have good studying/schwoolwork habits (benefiting them in their future achedemical career). I also would like to compliment on their programs that help children who aren't as 'fast learners' as others. The teachers are kind and make it seem that the students are as equal as any other person attending the school.
I have been a parent at South Colby for 6 years now.My last child will be attending the family school for the last year, but I will never be leaving. To Brian Pickard(Prinicpal)and to all of the wonderful teachers and the rest of your outstanding staff, I have so very much enjoyed these 6 yrs.Along with all of you, I have made some true and lasting friendships with other parents and students. Brian, you and I did not always see eye to eye but you never said aword to me if you knew I felt very strongly about a topic. That is what has always impressed me about you and South Colby, from students to parents to staff you have always been there to listen, have always offered a suggestion but would never TELL someone what to do. You have built a school of high standards, respect for others and a family with high regards for each other. To all of you; I Thank You . (I'm still not going anywhere)
